black lake records presents:

MANATEES

groovy, noisy sludge from Carlisle. If you know this band already, you'll know they're LOUD as heck. If you don't know them already, you will soon learn that they're LOUD as heck. After never having been able to catch them in Aberdeen, I saw them in London in September and they blew me away. Mostly instrumental, except for the occasional blast of screams, these guys are not to be missed.

SLEEPING LESSONS

another english band for the bill. formerly known as Tides, these guys hail from Cheltenham. A young band who pack a punch, these guys play a brand of emo/punk similar to that of La Dispute & Touché Amoré. Fast, energetic, fun.

+ MORE TBC

***IMPORTANT***:

THIS GIG WILL (UNFORTUNATELY) BE 18+. PLEASE BRING ID.

Also, this is the first gig of it's kind at The Carlton in recent history, and I think if this goes well, they'd be receptive to more Punk/DIY gigs so please be respectful of the venue when you're there, and hopefully if we get enough people through the door, we can keep doing gigs there. Aberdeen desperately needs a new medium sized venue and with a 140 cap, The Carlton *might* be a solution.

greg was saying they dont play as loud as they used to anymore.

european venues and their decibel limits took their toll over the years.

also, the manager of the carlton assures me that "noise isn't a problem" so *hopefully* they'll still be saying that post-gig.

I for one am really hoping that this is an excellent gig, as I like excellent gigs the best and it would be great if the Carlton proved to be an alternative mid sized venue. Does the Carlton have a P.A?

Have you not walked past on karaoke night? If they don't have a P.A, they have some really loud patrons.

I just realised which pub The Carlton is. I forgot all about that place. I used to watch football there when I first moved up here before I had the internet as they're all Liverpool fans, so they were the only place I knew of showing English football over SPL. Is there a room upstairs or something? I can't imagine a gig in there otherwise.

Everytime I went there, there was always loads of dogs in there. It was ace.

CSB.

this is where it is, if you're standing at the Salvation Army on Castle Street.

and yeah, Joe, there are two entrances to the building. door on the left goes to the pub/lounge, and the door on the right (which is usually locked) goes upstairs to the function room!

support:

[ ]

two-piece noisy rock band. frantic drumming accompanied by distorted bass guitar trying their darnedest to crush your skulls.

FFO: Lightning Bolt, Hella, Big Business

DIRTDRINKER

another two-piece. noise rock/hardcore in the vein of Botch, The Jesus Lizard, Unsane and Young Widows.

This will be our last Scottish show for a good while as Mark (Guitar/Vocals) will be moving to Estonia to take up a position as an Artist-In-Residence. Therefore, this night will double as his leaving night, so why not come and get absolutely slaughtered to send him off?!

Pretty sure that's my da's van and he's in this picture. He's either right at the top, on the back of the van or on the first level of scaffold.

  • 2 weeks later...

Manatees have just emailed me to say they are cancelling their Scottish weekender, and as such, they won't be playing this gig. I am absolutely gutted, but I'm pretty happy with the bill and I am working to find a new headliner that will top this lineup off nicely.

STAY TUNED.

black lake records presents:

BRIGHT SIDE
My new favourite band. From West Lothian, these guys play some really nice melodic hardcore. Reminds me of equal parts Counterparts, Pianos Become the Teeth and Shai Hulud. Their first Aberdeen show.

BANDWITHNONAME: An as-yet-untitled project from members of Absolutist. Expect it to be loud and punishing because, well, it is.

SLEEPING LESSONS unfortunately had to pull out of this, so I'm just running it as a 4-band bill, BUT if another band would like to play - I can easily make that happen.
