Good things about Aberdeen

I'm not Glaswegian but find it irritating.
I've realised taking football is never a good idea in Aberdeen.

I'm sure it was a forum member from here gave he a hard time in the Queen Vic not so long ago for being "a glory seeking tim" for supporting Celtic.

He was sick to death of everyone supporting the old firm and everyone was a glory hunter.

Why do you support Celtic if you're not from Glasgow?

Let me guess...your dad supports Celtic? Or your great grandfather is from there?

FWIW I fucking love Aberdeen and the 'Shire - of course it has its flaws, but the area one of the most beautiful places I've ever been and I consider myself pretty lucky it's my home town.

My girlfriend is from Falkirk, and my experience of down there only re-affirms that I would absolutely hate to live in the central belt.

Another night, another punch up.

The lane opposite Drummonds heading to O'neills 2 guys were beating the crap of of two police officers.

it took bystanders to control it before 2 police vans and 2 cars attended.

Breaking stereotypes, Aberdeen is a far more violent city than Glasgow as far as I've witnessed.

Clearly a man who has never been out in Keith.

To take my cat to the vet. I can't walk all the way there carrying a cat carrier.

I have to catch the bus every morning to work. They're shite. And I'm pretty sure Aberdeen is the most expensive in Scotland.

You find the grey soothing, so it makes it good for you, but I hate it. And as much as Nef says I should just move away. Everyone knows it isn't just THAT easy and that's stupid advice.

moving to another city is as easy as you make it. moaning about it on the internet won't rent you a flat in a sprawling metropolis like Basingstoke.

Is it worth reading this thread to catch up on the discussion? Judging by the percentage of JB content I'd assume not..?

xx

Agree with Jake on carrying a cat around. Giving it a smooth of a journey as possible is best. Cats tend to hate getting bundled into carriers anyway, and the movement of carrying one whilst taking a brisk walk to the vet would probably send it loopy, stress it out, or make it puke all over the place. Perhaps all 3. Getting a lift is a good idea, or taking it on the bus at the very least.

Jake talks an awful lot of shite sometimes, but it seems some folk are getting a little nitpicky with the things he's saying, almost trying to find fault with absolutely everything he posts. He's perfectly entitled to think Aberdeen is shit if he wants to. He's wrong though. Aberdeen is banging.

I genuinely don't understand why anyone stays in Aberdeen who isn't directly involved in Oil work..

I'm a Shire-dweller now but I have nothing against the city. It's pretty enough (when the weather isn't baws) and if you look hard enough there's plenty going on, but fuck me is it expensive! House prices here are comfortably twice what they'd be elsewhere in Scotland. If I wasn't tied here by work I'd fuck off further inland or down south in search of cheaper pastures.

That having been said, the financial side of things here cast aside, people who romantacise the idea of living in Glasgow or Edinburgh over Aberdeen get on my fucking balls something chronic. A city is a city is a city. If you can't find what you're after here, I'd wager you're unlikely to find it in any city.

Everything here is my opinion, and if people don't agree, fine. But it seems a lot of people are telling me I'm wrong. When, I'm not, it's my opinion. I'm not wrong, and you're not wrong. Nobody's wrong 'cause it's all opinions.

I'm sorry I offended you Nef. C. But I'm not sorry for my opinions. They still stand and I'll still debate them because that's what forums are for.

So the hating on JB has kept snowballing during my week off then? I had thought it'd've boiled over/fizzled out and everyone would be outraged about something else by now.

The JB/EC comparison is valid but unfair, EC can post shite and troll now and again, but it's infrequent and the ratio of posts like the one above to "good" posts is pretty low.

I'm going on record though as saying I'm on JB's side in all of this. While he has posted some shite, his posts pale in comparison to the number of posts complaining about him...

I'm on his side too but I quite like winding him up. We just need Milner to get blamed for something and this thread will be like every other thread at the moment.

It was a joke. Dweller are nothing now that E.C. isn't in them.

Lord Provost isn't a prominent enough figure in Aberdeen, that's another down point.

What made me think about the Lord Provost? I was thinking about who could represent Aberdeen in this Hell In a Cell match. Although IMO it should be TABLES AND LADDERS AND CHAIRS! TABLES AND LADDERS AND CHAIRS!

Most of my problems with Aberdeen are ones that could be fixed if the powers that be tried instead of ruining pretty grassy patches.

Back on topic:

The Doric Debate:

I don't mind having an accent, I speak with a fairly heavy accent but I've learned to curb it considerably due to working with a lot of people who either aren't familiar with broad doric or don't speak English as a first language. It's important to be able to thin down an accent as broad as mine when the occasion calls for it, IMHO.

'n folk fa type wae an accent are fuckin' arseholes. specially if thi d it athoot ony grammar or onyhin. i ken fully grown adults wae kids fa type like iss. wat a fukin effort it must b!
