girl anachronism
Ok, so it's almost the end of the year, and people are starting to make lists about stuff and things. I think it's been a really great year for music again and it's hard to pick favourites from the many amazing records that have come out. What's been floatin' yer proverbial boats this year? Interested to see what folk have enjoyed and what might be worth checking out. My top 15 (I can't quite pick just 10), barring any earth-shattering releases in the next three weeks looks like this:1. Josh T. Pearson- Last of the Country Gentlemen2. The Antlers-Burst Apart3. Low- C'mon4. The Decemberists- The King Is Dead5. Real Estate- Days6. I Break Horses- Hearts7. Wooden Shjips- West8. Fruit Bats- Tripper9. Beirut- The Rip Tide10. Bon Iver- Bon Iver11. Summer Camp- Welcome to Condale12. Slow Club- Paradise13. Youngteam- Daydreamer14. Yuck- Yuck15. The Horrors- SkyingGo. Mr Owl PhD
I could only get it down to a top 16. I always have to go one higher. I think this might be in something like the order of how much I liked them, but it's fairly rough.Roll the Dice - In DustOneohtrix Point Never - ReplicaWye Oak - CivilianTuneYards - WhokillPeaking Lights - 936The Advisory Circle - As the crow fliesTape - RevelationesButcher Boy - Helping HandsDustin O'Halloran - LumiereFamily Portrait - Family PortraitFrench Quarter - It's not just kissingWild Flag - Wild FlagReal Estate - DaysJohan Johannsson - The Miners' HymnsJulian Lynch - TerraBill Wells and Aidan Moffat - Everything's Getting OlderI also listened a lot to Hype Williams, Maria Minerva, Kim Ki O, the Finches and Mark McGuire, but they didn't quite have an album that made the list this year.My favourite track of the year wasn't on an album, just an EP:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hf8sjus9jj8Although it's really most properly listened to as part of this larger piece:18821259

kirsten
I remember seeing the little (2011) after album titles on Spotify so many times this year, and mainly on ace albums, but as with the 2011 gigs thread I've gone blank. So, from what I remember...PJ Harvey - Let England ShaketUnE-yArDs - w h o k i l lVessels - HelioscopeWild Flag - Wild FlagBattles - Gloss DropMale Bonding - Endless NowBill Wells and Aidan Moffat - Everything's Getting OlderYuck - YuckWashed Out - Within and WithoutPanda Bear - Tomboy(Again, I'll undoubtedly add more later)

There's probably more.Banner Pilot - Heart Beats PacificFootball etc - The DraftTextbook - Out of My UniverseI've listened to these because of this thread. In addition to the others mentioned that I haven't listened to yet I have no idea how I'm going to construct a top 10 or 15. Too many musics. The new Drake album is pretty great. Then there's that Kate Bush deally that's brilliant. Also Nils Frahm. And now all these. THANKS.Btw, the Football, etc. album is cracking. TR!ΔNGL€ T€€TH
Number one for me is still Josh T. Pearson ~ Last of the Country Gentlemen. A truly fantastic record, on a par with Blood on the Tracks and Midnight Organ Fight for sheer naked break-up honesty. I have also liked:The Decemberists ~ The King is DeadThe Ravonettes ~ Raven in the GraveThe Horrors ~ SkyingBon Iver ~ Bon IverWild Flag ~ Wild FlagYuck ~ YuckThe Antlers ~ Burst ApartLow ~ C'monI Break Horses ~ HeartsGillian Welch ~ The Harrow and the Harvest

Spoonie
There are literally no albums on this list so far that I've heard. Not a single one. I saw Vintage Trouble earlier this year, but that's the closest I've got! In fact, I'd go as far as to say that I've only ever even heard of about five artists on the list! you crazy kids and your crazy music! Shaki
Who says they are? I hear that Shaki's into some seriously obscure shit.Indeed. In actual fact The King is Dead, Pencaitland and The High Country are all jokepunk garage bands that I am in with myself. I name our albums after band names for irony. The original point though - if you're talking books you'd say "Martin Chuzzlewitt by Charles Dickens"..particularly as it is hard to say "Charles Dickens'z Martin Chuzzlewitt". What does it generally say on CD spines? artist or album title first?i'm bored.
Paranoid Android
Generally when you see an albums list the band is named first. It's the way I do it so it must be right.
