Guest
Sooo... is it good? or is everyone in internal error limbo? What is it? I have literally no idea what ios5 is meant to be and I have an iPhone.
ca_gere
I've had the beta version for a while. It's awesome. the notification system is so much better. The weather app is infinitely better in that you can see it by the hour by dragging down. Accessing the camera from the lock screen and snapping the shutter with the volume button is simple but one of those 'fuck me, that's good' things. Downloading your apps from the cloud is cool too. I've got a bunch of apps I forgot to download from my previous iphone and i know they're just sitting there and I can get them any time. It's a bit embarrasing seeing some of the guff apps i'd downloaded years ago. What else?... Oh when you download a song/podcast from itunes you can see the progress of the download in your ipod library. Again, really simple but effective. Not used newstand or the geo-reminders thing but might at some point.
Old Gold
It's the new operating system and it's a pain in the balls to install.
ca_gere
Fuck, there's loads of stuff I hadn't even noticed. http://www.macstories.net/tutorials/ios-5-tips-tricks-hidden-features/
Old Gold
Finally got it.The only thing I've noticed is the ability to make different photo albums which is great.I can deal with my homescreen being all messed up temporarily, but how fucking DARE the install forget my Spotify 'available-offlines.' 17thletter
yeah enjoying iOS5 for iphone...notifications are fly, camera access is really, really handy - took me a while to instal though, leaving the ipad till tomorrow..twitter is good as well! 17thletter
actually...iMessage is the best new feature. Free texts?
Lemonade
It deleted all my music when I updated, grrr. On the plus side some of the new features are cool, I like the notifications, and being able to edit photos on the phone. The auto-enhance is really good. Photo albums as well. Good. Probably won't ever use the cloud thing, or news stands.
MC Nice Andrew
Im not too sure about this imessage thing, It'll say im sending it as an imessage, then if i go back and look at it, it'll say it was text message.Otherwise enjoying it, my 3gs seems to be a little more responsive. Woodsinho
I got it on my ipod touch last night and noticed that long song titles finally scroll across the screen when they're getting played instead of getting cut off at 30ish characters. That's something that's been irritating me since I got it a couple of years ago.
Lemonade
I love that you can slide the keyboard down off the screen when you're typing a text. Before if you were typing a long reply that went up to the top of the screen and you wanted to re-read what they had said before, you had to copy and cut all the text out. That was always a pet peeve of mine.

There's an option to not send as a text message if you can't send as imessage. it's in general>messages. That's presuming you sent to someone with ios5 and imessage activated. Skubbs
Just updated, and for some reason I now have no space for anything on my phone I'll have to fiddle about with it...
kirsten
I love that you can slide the keyboard down off the screen when you're typing a text. Before if you were typing a long reply that went up to the top of the screen and you wanted to re-read what they had said before, you had to copy and cut all the text out. That was always a pet peeve of mine.I'd always tap 'edit', then when I read what else I had to reply to, tap cancel and it returned to the text I was typing. I think I'll still have to do that with iOS 5 because when your reply takes up the whole screen, there doesn't seem to be any way of scrolling to the text you're replying to.Cool story, bro.It seems nice so far, but little things are annoying me like duplicated calendar events. I did also manage to trick the News Stand into going into my 'shit I'll never use' folder.
Jaaakkkeee
I only just found out about how the edit button helps. I've been sending massive longs texts recently. Will iOS5 help with my massive long texting?
Old Gold
I did also manage to trick the News Stand into going into my 'shit I'll never use' folder.Niccccce, how did you manage that?
kirsten
All it requires is speed. Make a new folder using two other apps, then, as it's doing that wee animation where it shows you the folder being made, you just quickly fling News Stand in the new folder. Sorry, not very clearly explained.
Old Gold
I understood and achieved the desired effect. Thank you kindly ma'am.I'm off to arrange everything by order of icon colour now.
ca_gere
Itl pop out as soon as you go into the folder or reset ur device though so just leave it alone. Not seen the need for the dumb thing anyhow.
Old Gold
Reset might, but entry to the 'shit I seldom use' folder doesn't disturb it. I read that trying to open the app while it's in a folder will freeze the device, but I'm not in much danger of trying to drunkenly order a magazine subscription or anything. Old Gold
Since typing the above I have developed a Father Dougal-style urge to try opening it and see what happens.
Lethal10
My web browsing seems better. Faster to open pages etc. When I type a message over a few line my text input becomes very slow and freezes.
kirsten
Since typing the above I have developed a Father Dougal-style urge to try opening it and see what happens.I just did it as I couldn't bear the tension. It started to load and then closed down and returned me to the home screen.
kirsten
New favourite thing is the option to set a reminder when you arrive at a certain location. Amazing! A little robot in my pocket.
