FRIDAY 28 OCTOBER

THE BOATS

The partnership of Craig Tattersall and Andrew Hargreaves collectively know as The Boats enters into its seventh year. In this time they have released a catalogue of seven albums, four EPs and have appeared on many compilations. The duo thought it was time to push the status quo and break the album cycle. 2011 will see the group perform their latest work live before an audience! The improvised piece entitled Do The Boats Dream Of Electric Fritz Pfleumer? will be performed through an intricate tape loop system offering more wow and flutter than ever before. The show will see the group present a poem to the magic of magnetic tape, dreams and the synth pallet of Greek hero Evangelos Odysseas Papathanassiou. As always the music will reflect a process that sees The Boats passing the experimental through a skewed pop filter creating a sound that uncovers a friendly more fragile side to the avant-garde. These will be special unique events not to be missed.

WHITE MATERIAL

Long meandering drone which is somewhere between Yellow Swans and Tim Hecker. Taking cues from Kranky and Type Records, Boomkat reviews, one-sided 12"s, insomnia, Ben Frost and coffee.

SATURDAY 29 OCTOBER

INDIAN RED LOPEZ

I|R|L is an idea of natural compulsion. I|R|L use guitars, electronics and visuals to present an all encompassing sensory experience. I|R|L have released their debut record. It is called Empty Your Lungs And Breathe

KASULE

Kasules sound is diverse, melodic & challenging & fits the mood. To generalize, their sound can be best related to Joy division big chords; Ulrich Schnauss, Slowdive, e-bow guitars; slow-faster-harder-louder type Spaceman 3, Mogwai; however this is only reference points to their unique sound. their 1st lp demonstration, contains many moments of utter sublimeness.

LUXURY CAR

Luxury Car is technically, an electronic pop duo; however they dont sound remotely like the Pet Shop Boys, Soft Cell, Sparks, Erasure, or Goldfrapp. They are not industrial, or camp, or ironic, or minimalist, or Goths, or obsessed with sadomasochistic sex. Where much electronic pop music is cold, stark and hard, Luxury Car prefers warmth and poetry.

FIONA SOE PAING

Fiona Soe Paing is a Scottish/Burmese composer, producer and vocalist, based in Aberdeenshire. Fiona collaborates with animation artist Zennor Alexander as Colliderscope, to perform their live cinema show No Man's Land, combining projected animations, electronica soundtrack and a live vocals performance. THE HAXAN CLOAK

One-man solo noise/drone/weird project of Bobby Krlic. Hand-made percussion, cellos, violins and unavoidable-yet-escalating tinnitus.

CAPITALS

Capitals is the name of Edinburgh-based musicians Angus Carbarns (ex-The Cinematics & TVT Records) and Keir MacCulloch (ex-Araya & Benbecula Records). Their successes, both past and present, make Capitals one of the most promising, thought-provoking and uniquely talented acts emerging from the UK scene today. The pair recently relocated to Edinburgh which is where Capitals was born.

MATTHEW COLLINGS

Tiny delicate moments of intimacy and all-consuming noise; the music of British/Icelandic composer and sound artist Matthew Collings is textural, melodic and often sonically overwhelming. Spanning the divide between Steve Reich and avant-garde guitar music, Collings has already found considerable praise from the international community for his previous releases under the curious moniker Sketches for Albinos, releasing 4 full lengths albums in the US, UK and Japan. His compositions include a wide range of instrumentation, from guitars, piano, organ and vocals to white noise, percussion, found sound and field recordings, theremin, brass and strings.

SUNDAY 30 OCTOBER

CONQUERING ANIMAL SOUND

The duo of Anneke Kampman and James Scott formed in 2009 and released their debut album 'Kammerspiel' earlier this year. Live, the duo perform the majority of what you hear on record creating loops, beats and samples out of anything and everything with Annekes sumptuous vocals carrying the sounds to what seems like a new world. 'Kammerspiel' is essentially pop music but in the way the likes of Fever Ray or Bjork portray pop music. Where Conquering Animal Sound differ is in their love for tape hiss and childrens toys.

FROG POCKET

DJ / violinist / guitarist. Yeah its possible. This one man show weaves its way slyly around the sound of Scottish alternative rock and folk before smashing your ear drums with a full on blast of breakcore then slowing back for some discord's in the realm of the electro universe. A musical journey that creeps its way up the back stairs and sneaks into your head then just every now and then shakes it around to see what happens. A beautifully brutal act.

TRUMPETS OF DEATH

Leeds combo Trumpets Of Death investigate a niche, but potentially fruitful area where traditional folk music rubs up against avant-noise, post-rock textures. Recent EP Teeth + Teeth = Teeths has been described as being uncompromising in its vision and, most wonderfully, complete in its execution. It is something music in 2011 desperately needs: a shot of the dark stuff, delivered by people who know exactly what they're doing" Soundblab.com

DEBUTANT

Debutant is one man, a guitar and a voice. Although he writes and sings songs, hes certainly not a singer-songwriter in the traditional sense. Think dreamy pop songs augmented by textured atmospheric soundscapes. Or something like that. Debutant loops and layers guitars, creating shimmering atmospheres over which he adds delicate, breathless and dreamy vocals. Having plied his trade in bands, Phillip began writing songs and compositions that didnt suit the style of the bands he was in. So he purchased a loop pedal and figured hed do it all himself. Having relocated to Edinburgh in 2009, 2010 saw Debutant release a full-length album.

SEAS, STARRY

Debuting as a live band in 2011, Seas, Starry is five people making instrumental / ambient / shoegaze music for all the family. Described by The Fly as often atonal, sometimes danceable, completely different to whats going on in Aberdeen now.

JO MANGO

Jo Mangos rising acclaim has rested on an unusual mix of talented multi-instrumentalism, haunting childlike vocals, exceptional lyricism and a talent for mashing unique collections of accompanying sounds from African finger pianos to electronic autoharps mixed with traditional acoustic guitar and harmonium. Her debut album Paperclips and Sand was released in 2006 on her own label - Lo-Five Records. Jo has been working on new material with Adem Ilhan (Fridge and Adem). Watch out for that this year!

EMILY SCOTT

Emily Scott is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist based in Edinburgh. She writes odd-ball string compositions and makes other people play them. She can occasionally be spotted working with Kate Miguda (violin), Rik Evans (viola) and Pete Harvey (cello).
