One of the best bands to emerge from the North-east, punk trio APB are going back to their roots to close a highly-successful year at Aberdeens Lemon Tree Lounge with a gig on Friday, December 30.

After a lengthy break, the post-punk/funk pioneers are back with a new seven-track mini-LP on Oatcake Records.

The original APB trio George Cheyne (on drums), Glenn Roberts (guitar) and Iain Slater (bass and vocals) emerged on the burgeoning independent music scene back in 1979 after taking inspiration from the punk do-it-yourself ethic and acquired legendary status both here and in the USA.

They released a series of funky, sparse and angular singles throughout the early 80s earning several John Peel and Radio 1 sessions.

Their records were picked up by club and college radio DJs in the US, particularly in the New York Tri-State area, earning the band a large cult following.

More US tours followed expanding the audience further, earning the band support slots with James Brown and The Clash, their own legendary headline shows at The Ritz and a number one record on the Billboard dance chart. The 1985 singles collection Something to Believe In cemented their appeal.

APB eventually disbanded in 1990 and all went on to pursue other projects but the 25th anniversary of the release of Something To Believe In led to more US gigs and the bands return to the studio to record a new album Three.

In addition, Iain, who had relocated to Hastings, has brought in Hastings-based musician/DJ Del Guapo to expand the bands sound.

Tickets for the December 30 Lemon Tree Lounge gig are available online at Aberdeen - Find Theatre tickets, dates and venues schedules, by phone at 01224 641122 and at Aberdeen Box Office at the Music Hall, His Majestys Theatre and The Lemon Tree.
