french_disko
Seeing as we've now had the Champions League Final, I think we should consign last season to history & look forward to the new Season. So, here it is, the 2011/2012 Season Thread which will be filled with hope, joy, excitement & alleged FIFA Corruption....

delboy
Oh god not even thought about the new season yet, enjoying not moaning about how hapless Cambridge United are this time of year. I expect another season of mid table mediocrity in the 5th tier of English football.

Soda Jerk
Just read this on Twitter:"Houllier to leave Villa. Schole retiring. Things come in threes. I hope Robbie Savage has fallen down a well"I chuckled.

Moose
BBC Sport - Sam Allardyce appointed West Ham United managerThis news is a few days old now, but that's Allardyce in charge at the Hammers, officially. I can't see them staying down this season now. Allardyce will have them very well organised, playing ugly, ugly football.
Soda Jerk
Hopefully Big Sam will be able to keepo hold of most of the squad. They've got a very good selection of players. I can't see them staying together though. They are going to lose most of their stars for next to nothing. Parker, Cole, Upson, Green and Ba just have to be on their way.
delboy
Big Sam is claiming they'll be playing football 'the West Ham' way which of course is just to appease the fans, don't think he'll change his style of play now but I reckon he'll get West Ham out the Championship, they will lose a number of their bigger players though. But they have a huge squad so probably need to trim it down.Michael Owen has signed a years contract to warm the bench at Man Utd and apparently Charlie Adam might be on his way to Old Trafford! Who'd have thought that when he left Rangers to try his luck down south?Cambridge United are desperately trying to offload six of our overpaid but not very good players if anyone wants lazy, uninterested, useless, inept additions to their squads! On a brighter note we've actually signed two new players already!
Woodsinho
How long before he gets Dioufy in? I demand Angel Passes as the primary mode of playing style.
Soda Jerk
I hope Charlie Adam doesn't go to United, the big headed cunt. Can't stand him. He can welly a good free kick, but other than that I just don't rate him. He hoofs heaps of long balls, and most are wayward, yet when one connects, he's lauded for his "hollywood passes". He's not a Paul Scholes replacement. Scholes, apart from his passing and striking of the ball, is lauded for his workrate, and giving the ball carrier no time to breathe. Charlie Adam has a Berbatov like workrate. It shouldn't happen. If it does, I'd be surprised. Ferguson has already got immobile midfielders in Carrick, Anderson and Gibson, all of whom reckon they are long ball specialists and continuously waste possession by having a crack at one. He just doesn't need another one.He should sign Lassana Diarra from Madrid, to get stuck in. And then a crafty midfielder, like Pastore, or Modric. Sneijder seems out of the question, but he'd be a good acquisition too.
delboy
If Adam does go to Old Trafford he'd be warming the bench along with Michael Owen I think! He's a good player but is he United material? I think not.
Soda Jerk
I think he'd play. Gibson is woeful, and he plays, and now there's no Scholes he'd have every chance of playing. It shouldn't ever happen though, and hopefully won't. I hope nobody bids for him and he gets smacked in the chops with the reality check that is the Championship. His ego has gradually inflated all season. He is a good striker of the ball, but his all-round game is poor, and his attitude stinks. Looks unfit and doesn't really show any real determination. Hate that guy.

ca_gere
Mark Hughes to Villa seems nailed on now that it's been announced he's left Fulham.Dunno what it is about sparky, he just doesn't seem like a good manager eventhough his record is decent. Hardly one to rally the troops.

Sneijder seems out of the question, but he'd be a good acquisition too.I think you're being unfair on Adam. His workrate has been exceptional in the 3 or 4 games I saw of Blackpool last season. Whether he is Man Utd standard or not I don't know but I do think he's a top passer and hard working enough too. I dare say if Sir Alex thinks he's good enough then he probably is. It's probably agent generated bullshit mind you.
Soda Jerk
I probably am being unfair on him, because I just can't stand him. I didn't mind him, until he pleaded to leave, then starts thrusting and kissing the Blackpool badge when he scores a goal. He's a decent passer, though I still don't think he's quite the long-ball specialist that he thinks he is. If it wasn't for his dead-ball taking, I'd rate Danny Murphy higher than Charlie Adam.Danny Murphy is severely underrated though.I'm probably just being overly critical as well because I don't want United to get him. I hope Alex is reading this and thinks "Hmm, that Soda Jerk is right. Adam is a wasteful and temperamental shit".
Guest Gladstone
I think Charlie Adam would be awesome for Man Utd. He's the kind of player that will excel with good players round about him, making good runs into good positions etc. His range of passing is excellent. And like the man above says, his workrate is really good - box to box midfielder.
Soda Jerk
I don't understand how his workrate can be considered good. He looks limp and half arsed when not in possession, rarely pressures the ball carrier and doesn't really press, as he looks very weak going into challenges and gets outmuscled nearly every time. Only looks interested when he's got the ball. He gets caught in possession so often, and is incredibly wasteful. He is an ok player, made to look even better by the fact the Blackpool squad was terrible yet he was the best of a very poor bunch. As said, good striker of the ball and has good delivery from dead balls, but he is a very incomplete player. It's astounding how utterly overhyped he is, and he of all people is the one who seems to believe the hype more than anyone.
Guest Gladstone
ALLEGEDLY, Derek Riordan has signed for Aberdeen.I'm not going to tell you who told me that, because I don't think he was supposed to...
Captain America
Brad Freidal has signed a two year deal with Spurs. Good for Spurs I reckon, not bad for a 40 year old getting a 2 year deal as well.
Guest Gladstone
Brad Freidal has signed a two year deal with Spurs. Good for Spurs I reckon, not bad for a 40 year old getting a 2 year deal as well.Saw that - he's awesome in comparison Gomes. Even at 40, Friedel is a reliable guy to have in between the sticks, and capable of some superb saves. What has happened to this generation of goalkeepers? Outside Joe Hart, are there any properly top notch goalkeepers in England under 25? Has there been too much focus on the keepers being capable of playing a bit with the ball at their feet and not enough basic goalkeeping training? I mean, there are some cracking keepers out there in terms of shot stopping, but keepers coming out and flapping at corners seems to be pretty common, and most of the really good shot stoppers seem to be prone to far more balls ups than the likes of the "old guard" like Friedel, Schmeichel, Van Der Sar etc (I know that's only 3 but I'm sure there were more - Flowers is another one).Maybe my memory is just shit and keepers back 10+ years ago were all prone to fuckups too, but it just seems to be more commonplace these days.
