"[KRS-One]

Word, YEAH~! So we sing

[Chorus: KRS-One]

Me-don't-wan'-me-don't-wan'-me-don't-wan'-me-don't-wan' no whack deejay-uh

Me-don't-wan'-me-don't-wan'-me-don't-wan'-me-don't-wan' no whack deejay-uh

Me don't like what they play, me don't like what they say

Me-don't-wan'-me-don't-wan'-me-don't-wan'-me-don't-wan' no whack deejay-uh

[KRS-One]

New flow, new style, comin in BOOM BAP

Who now wanna throw down, the crew's wild

One flow - you go, two flows - you outta here

We pros, three flows, buck through your outer gear

Let's raise the fahrenheit on these DJ's we don't like

You know who I'm talkin about, yo they might come on tonight

They never hype, never tight, that's not polite

Am I lyin? No you're quit right

So tonight, I be statin facts, most DJ's are whack

They be holdin back, they NBA - Never Broke a Act

Yo I'm hopin that, new DJ's open rap, bring the focus back

And take the crates from these fakes to the lake and throw 'em OVER that

We lead 'em to freedom or poetically beat 'em up

In conventions like meet 'em, see them, we plan to eat 'em up

I'm bein MC'in seein and agreein that this here cut

DEFINITELY will hit them up, so we sing

[Chorus]

[KRS-One]

I SCREAM on these rappers like directors do actors

Hang with computer hackers on farms and ride tractors

Thug spelled backwards is GUT, drop the H

If you ain't got guts and you callin yourself a thug, you a fake!

Not just the guts to bust off 44 calibre

Cause mad thugs turn bitch when you show that ass algebra

It's like... the vexed look, the sex look

The checks look, cause brothers be, scared of that textbook!

You best look elsewhere, knowledge of self here

Never no welfare, echinicea for health care

Outrappin 'em, slappin 'em, ghetto scholar like Pun, Joey Crack and them

On spraypaint we put fat caps on 'em (WORD)

Up in the yard, we go to hittin it harder

Then return to reprieve as mild-mannered Kris Parker

The exec, signin on checks, approvin budgets

But if you want it, meet me at any club, we can THUG IT

[Chorus]

[KRS-One]

N.O.R.E. goes "WHAT WHAT," Cube goes "YEH-YEAH!"

Jamaicans go "BUCK BUCK," MC Eiht goes "GYEAH~!"

Master P goes "UNGHHH," Busta RHymes goes "YAH YAH"

KRS-One goes "WOOP WOOP" like cop cars

Cause I pull over pop stars and arrest they guitars

And sentence them to the turntables, cuttin on 8 bars

Shakin 'em up, rippin 'em down, brother whattup? Gimme a pound

You diggin the sound I'm bringin around, shakin the ground, never a clown

You know that you buggin, but you also know that you love it

Somethin new and bumpin others be frontin

They can't even think about, new flows and techniques

They speak when the check speaks but KRS-One is direct heat

[Chorus] with ad libs

[Chorus]

YES!!!"

Why the fuck are you hung up on how wack/whack is spelled, when KRS-One, the man who apparently sets the rules on how to spell hip hop slang, spells it both ways in his song lyrics?

More to the point, virtually every word you write is misspelled as everyone else has pointed out...so either you give a fuck about spelling or you don't, which is it?

giles is right. 5 year old spelling, joey from friends and scottish nationalism aside, anybody else got anything to contribute other than the odd backpacker album or the 99% white roster of def jux?

how about some of your favourite rare hip hop singles of days gone by?

One that I have loved since I heard it is 'MCs Ain't Sayin' Nothin'' by Staten Island one-hit wonder Perverted Rhyme Throwwa.

YouTube - Perverted Rym Throwwa - Mcees Ain't Sayin' Nuthin'

It's actually quite a melodic and innocent track, considering that it would have been marketed at the height of fellow 'shaolin' inhabitants the wu-tang clan's underground success, and the artwork makes it look like the work of some part time murderous street thug, part time murderous MC. Aside from the fact that it is a nice track though, is the astonishing rarity of it...I don't think I've ever seen a copy for sale, and old ads or forum posts that had it for sale were asking near enough 100 for their copy.

Another underground but slightly better known track, from Hi-Tech who did a couple of singles before disappearing as far as I know. This is a pretty laid back but hard hitting cut intersperced with some weird eerie, fuzzy spaced out bars.

I am really not big into the West Coast sound in general, but it's the really ugly, creepy underground NY stuff that really grabs me. Aside from endlessly catching up on the unfamiliar cream of the last 30 years of hip hop, I spend most of my time looking for these one offs & unheard slabs o' wax.

I'm all about Elzhi's "The Preface" album at the moment (he used to be in Slum Village, who I've not yet listened to). Plenty of snare and bass in Black Milk's production - the beats are lively and upbeat without getting boring, and Elzhi's a skilled lyricist with a tight flow that's deceptively aggressive at times.

Also, new Ghostface tracks. This one I really like; there's some classic Ghostface storytelling going on and the beat's real nice. It tails-off a little when Fabolous shows up (not a fan at all), but it's pretty decent all-round.

This one, however, sounds fucking terrible. I don't know what he was thinking...

I love rap and have done for years. Not gonna sit and type up a tonne of recommendations because i'm too tired and a lot of the good stuff has been covered, but a UK album I strongly recommend would be 'Council estate of mind' by Skinnyman. He's from Finsbury in London and if you prefer the lyricists lounge approach to rap rather than the stories of urban decay and struggle then this won't be for you but I absolutely love it. Some great wordplay, cracking choices of sample and just a solid album start to finish. One of my all time favourite albums regardless of genre.
