Paranoid Android
Kendrick album is getting a lot of play. To the dismay of my flatmate who isn't much of a hip hop fan.

Probably because of the acoustics in the studio, rather than the performers though.Having Araab Muzik there was a nice touch, but did they really need both A-Trak and Clark Kent djing? Guest Giles Walker
On a slightly retro hip hop tip, here's a mix by Kid Bell (Snafu/99) of his old hip hop records that were apparently in his parent's attic. Highly recommended."Just moved a load of old records from my folks house to the record room in my flat. Some of these hadn't been played in 5+ years, so i thought i'd put a mix together and reminisce. It's kinda like that hip hop mixtape i never quite got round to making back in 2002 (minus all the scratching + loads of obvious classics). Anyone who got irie in my parents attic back in those days will remember some of these jams."The Roots - Act too (Love of my life)Diverse - TimePrefuse 73 - Perverted UndertoneDabrye - The LishAsheru - Mood Swing (Instrumental)Swif-n-Wessun - BucktownNotorious B.I.G - WarningNon Phixtion - Black HelicoptersRoots Manuavu - MovementsPortishead - StrangersEmmanuel + Braintax - Let's go awayPrefuse 73- 3 Sounds from 94Boards of Canada - RoygbivDiamond D - A day in the lifeQuasimoto - Boom music (Instrumental)Charizma and PBW - My world premiereD and D Allstars- 1,2 PassMF Doom - PotholderzDr Octagon - Blue FlowersEdan - No. 1 Hit recordJehst - High Plains DrifterKurious - Im KuriousDJ Krush - Meiso (DJ Shadow club mix)Kenny Dope - Get on DownDanny Breaks - The JellyfishDabrye - Smoking the EdgePete Rock - Back on da block (Instrumental)Nas - RepresentMobb Deep - Give up the goodsSlum Village - Fall in LoveTeddy Rock - NelsonCrooklyn Dodgers - CrookylynKing Just - Warriors DrumBrand Nubian - Punks Jump up to get beat down (Diamond D remix)Slick Rick + Outkast - Street talkinMain Source - Lookin at the front doorPete Rock and Cl SMooth - T.R.O.YPrefuse 73 + Dabrye - Invigorate4 Hero + Jill Scott - Another DayMos Def - Umi Says
Soda Jerk
Only just around to checking out that Joey Basa$$ 1999 tape. Blimey. Good. I like he's on about drugs and guns, and he's what, like 17 or something?

Soda Jerk
Heard this today: http://abdominal.bandcamp.com/album/sitting-music For those not familiar with Abdominal, he does alot of collabs with DJ Format, and tends to rap about how good he is at rapping, in a Jurassic5 sort of style. This is a little stretch from his usual stuff. It's a collab with The Obliques, who are an acoustic blues/roots sort of band, so it's an interesting take on production, as his flow is just backed by a bluesy mostly-acoustic guitar, some percussion and backing vocals. On first listen, it's pretty great. Totally laid back, mostly lazy flows, sparse beats. Very nice.

ca_gere
Kid Bell Hip Hop Mix Thanks! I've passed this onto a few of my 'crew' from those days. Literally every track on this was on heavy rotation round our various flats.

ca_gere
They sound slightly 'My First DAW from TOMY' but with a bit more production value they'd be good and there's some nice ideas in there.
Michal
Thank You for Your feedback. These are shorter versions, and not always cut from the final version.I do not really know about 'My First DAW from TOMY' , is there any link to listen to that , can you provide it ?Cheers

Soda Jerk
Quite liking this mob This is pretty neat. I especially like the guy who raps 3rd in the sequence. It's very Jurassic 5, with those feel-good beats, and all the mentioning of their own band name. Checked out more stuff on Spotify. It's all pretty decent. Soda Jerk
I'm quite new to RA. His latest has blown me away. That track above is great too. Vinnie Paz can do one though. I'd probably listen to more Jedi stuff if it wasn't for his awful tones over the top of it.
Guest Giles Walker
This is probably one of my favourite hip hop records of the year, i gave it a few weeks and i am still loving it. (How do you post youtube videos in here nowadays?)
Guest Giles Walker
Aaaah you just post the link, i suppose i should post something else. Mystikal dropped this James Brown influenced track at the end of the year and i thought it was pretty fun.
