KimyReizeger
Does anyone have any knowledge of acoustic guitar outlets in this country? Any recommendations? Wide selection and specialisation being the key here - I'm looking for a high quality electro-acoustic.
stoney_stu
Does anyone have any knowledge of acoustic guitar outlets in this country? Any recommendations? Wide selection and specialisation being the key here - I'm looking for a high quality electro-acoustic.First of all what is your budget?Personally I'd buy something I know I'd get some money back on later if I had to resell.. So a Martin, a Taylor or a Gibson, next down Yamaha, Takemine ...Tanglewoods are great value for money but you wont get much back for one... they do make some more expensive ones also ..some are swedish built and look gorgeous. but 5 years from now I'm guessing someone in the used market will pay more for a US built guitar. Then there are custom built guitars of course like Moon in Glasgow or others its all down to cost.Personally I love Martin D35s or a Gibson SJ200 ... yummy
Pierre Von Mondragon
Dunno about specialist outlets, I've been in the Acoustic room in C&C, and it looked like all points of the spectrum were covered, Guitar Guitar is full o' top gear, and Merchant City Music has a wee room as well.If money is no object what about that Jimmy Moon Luthier to the stars dude; Moon Guitars er, Just like the guy above has said. Bigsby
Love my Gibson J45, but I bought it in London.I guess Guitar Guitar in Edinburgh is going to have as good a selection of high end stuff as you will find.
HateEvent
Jimmy Moon built me an electric (Explorer) back in 2004 and it was a fantastic guitar. If I had tonnes to spend I'd try a couple of his models for reference and possibly opt for one of those or a custom build if you wanted an amended spec but to the same quality level.Other good guitars to look at are the Tanglewood Master Design models and Cole Clark Fat Lady models (friend of mine has one and it's astounding). If you care about resale, obviously Gibson, Martin, Taylor and the likes would hold their value a bit better (generally), but you may not get as good a playing/sounding instrument for the same initial investment.I'd prefer the better guitar from the get go, personally. KimyReizeger
Thanks for the advice. I will look into these places. The max I'd spend I suppose would be around 1000. However, if the right guitar came along I just don't know what I'd do on the day!I was in RnB on the weekend and tried a whole bunch, none of which really tickled me. At the moment I play a nylon string with a K&K pickup that I put in myself. The problem is that it doesn't transmit very well on stage. So I want a guitar that sounds great amplified. Just not sure whether to move over to steel string or not. I remember playing a 600 Yamaha nylon string in Celtic Chords which pretty much remains my benchmark at the moment. gothicphoenix
I got a Norman b18 acoustic in a sort of tan sunburst back when pro sound was open. Got it for around 250, i know is a lesser known brand and i dont even play acoustic that much but after i played it i just had to have it. best blues sound ive ever heard from a steel string acoustic.Bonus was when i got home i found out the retail for over 350, bargin.I know its not electro-acoustic but could be converted
KimyReizeger
Forgot to update this before, but it turns out Guitar Guitar in Glasgow is a spanking good place to play top-end acoustics. There is a big selection of the very best: Martin, Gibson, Lowden, Collings and others. Really friendly staff and a good attitude towards potential buyers. Bigsby
So did you get one?
KimyReizeger
Nah not yet; it's kind of gone off the priorities list for the time-being. I considered a second-hand Lowden in Guitar Guitar but it didn't have a pick-up unfortunately. I will definitely return there when desire to buy resurfaces. Pierre Von Mondragon
It is a nice place, the right balance between offering you assistance, and leaving you the fuck alone to drool over shit in peace. Downstairs is the extra nice home of the extra priced though, they had some relic strat clones (Nash I think) in very nice colours. And relic Strats I hasten to add.
