James Broonbreed
Cheers. I'm going to try installing vents at the foot of the walls to try and help air the cavities. Replastering is a last resort in case the underlying problem remains - although, it should be quick and easy enough to do myself if it's just sections that need replaced. I'll see what this survey comes up with.
Trikelops
We were told by the inspector that a lot of the problem is caused in these old properties because they were meant to 'breathe', having sash windows and fireplaces etc. Since most of us have modern sealed windows and blocked off fireplaces, any condensation, even steam from cooking, has nowhere to go so it settles on the coldest walls, the outside ones in our case. We still have problems with the kitchen and bathroom but they are due to be replaced in the next couple of years so they will do the walls at the same time. TR!ΔNGL€ T€€TH
Does anyone have recommendations for storage boxes for CDs? We have over 1000 CDs that don't get listened to, as we much prefer vinyl or using Spotify. However, we don't want to get rid of them, so we would be keen to be able to store them under our bed. I've had a quick look online, but nothing has really been wiggling my wand.
Bigsby
Fruit boxes from supermarkets are ideal, and free.
TR!ΔNGL€ T€€TH
Which websites do people use to search for content on Netlfix? I am aware that Netflix's algorithm for recommending shows and movies isn't the greatest.
Jaaakkkeee
Has anyone used music magpie before? How long till they give you your money? And have you had anything rejected by them? Sent a box of old books/cds/games/dvds on friday. I want my money sooner rather than later. Also some of the stuff had seen better days. Don't want to get my hopes up and only get like 35p 'cause they've rejected some stuff.

They arranged a courier to come and collect everything and I had the money in about a week IIRC. They only rejected a few things.

Stroopy121
I sold them a fairly old laptop. They quoted me a great price, received it, re-quoted me a shite price and then told me they'd charge me a shitload in postage to return it to me. Wouldn't go back for an item like that. xx

My gf just let me know that they're going through it now and we should have the money today or tomorrow, which is cool. 1 hour ago, Stroopy121 said: I sold them a fairly old laptop. ca_gere
In light of that McGuinness fella dying, i got to wondering... what is the IRA up to nowadays? Is there even an IRA to speak of?

Although, Brexit will probably massively fuck everything up.
ca_gere
So there's effectively no more mad fuckers in camo coats and black balaclavas wanting to kill people? Crazy to think there were terrorists in our back yard for so many years. I remember it being totally normalized growing up: the 'troubles' etc.

ca_gere
I know I should know this but, what caused the cease fire? And how has it been maintained for 20 years?

And how has it been maintained for 20 years? There was lots of behind the scenes negotiations between the British government and the Provisional IRA since the 1980's, but it only really got going when John Major was Prime Minister. From the militant Republican side, a combination of the political gains from the death of Bobby Sands and the British deployment of the SAS in Ireland - who were operating a shoot to kill policy - pushed towards a political rather than armed solution. The Good Friday Agreement has been in place since 1999 and was the culmination of peace talks. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Good_Friday_Agreement Crucially, it is dependant on both Britain and Ireland remaining in the EU, so that an open border between the north and south can remain.
Soda Jerk
Anyone that has been to Amsterdam, can you recommend cool things to do that aren't hookers or drugs? Also, how's the best way to get around town. Tram? Bus? Is there day passes you can get that will get you unlimited travel? We'll be in a hotel just south of the city, supposedly a 15 minute tram or a 20 minute bus. What's best?
ca_gere
Rijksmuseum and van gogh museum Vondelpark Jordaan area for wandering about and getting good munch Never got much further than that in terms of non hooker/drug activities. Tram is the bomb. Most likely day/week passes available. I'm pretty sure you can use the same ticket for both bus and tram.

Just looked up those, and we're going to be right by Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh museum and Vondelpark, so that's handy. KSJ81
We got travel cards last time we were in Holland. We used them on trains, trams and buses. You just top them up and scan them when you get on and off the public transport. But, when we were heading back to the airport we didn't have the minimum 25 euros of credit on them even though the fare is only 5 or something and the guard tried to charge us 55 euros for the privilege! We politely declined and ended up being escorted by transport police from the train at schipol with our 2 year old on a gruffalo trunks thinking it was the best thing ever as daddy was goin to jail! In Amsterdam I've done the stadium tour, heinekin tour and a canal boat tour. All very good. Also stayed in The Hague and done madjuredam and went through to Rotterdam for a day mainly for the zoo!
ca_gere
madjuredam!!! I remember that being the greatest thing ever when I was a kid. The mini football stadium blew my mind. What happened to miniature villages? you don't see them much these days. Rotterdam is such a cool city. It's a little rougher around the edges than amsterdam - at least on the outskirts - but in a good way. The center is all brand new because it was destroyed in the war. Some cool architecture (cube houses!) and much better bars/coffee shops. The locals are friendlier too. Delft is another awesome NL spot - pokey wee student town that looks like a vermeer painting everywhere you go.
