Quick Questions

Frosty Jack

I finish the second term of classes at uni a week on Friday, and a group of us are planning on getting a really good bottle of whisky to celebrate - i.e. splitting it six ways or something. Budget would be about £50-70, I think.

So, on that note - any recommendations for a really good single malt? I don't mind what part of the country it's from, as none of us are too picky!

For that budget, you could go down to The Grill and try about 6 different nips and still be able to afford a bottle of the most liked. I think.

That Balvenie Doublewood stuff is usually available in supermarkets for anything between £25-£45. It really is excellent. Very, very drinkable.

If you want to double your budget, this is the finest liquid that's ever touched my lips:

I'm usually an Islay/W Isles sort of bloke, but 25 year old Highland Park is a religious experience.

I have very little expereince with Whiskey > £40, so can't really help you on the ~£70 front. My favourites, as well as that Balvenie, are Bunnahabhain, Bowmore, Ardbeg and - oddly - MacAllan, all of the 12 y/o variety.

As soon as I start it up, for ages it was never starting up properly - was a black screen with white writing, then a few months ago this popped up. It's more for the photographs than anything else. Tried admin, looked this issue up online and some folk had put some commonly used passwords, nothing has worked. Then again, I'm not sure it's letting me type in these passwords as nothing comes up (no asterisks). My dad is just gutted about the dog, he was basically the only other male in the house and was spoilt rotten. I'm pretty sure I have photos of him on this fucking laptop.

Buy one of these....

Take the hard drive out of the laptop (two screws) and take the connector adaptor off the end of the laptop (something that converts multiple pins to a slot)

Then plug it into the USB adaptor (there is a notch to stop you inserting it the wrong way) then attach that to another PC...hey presto, access to your hard drive.

I can't remember however if the admin passsword is on the hard drive itself, then sometimes you're f**ked....

FAO Spotify Premium Users:

I want to use spotify at work, but can't install it on my work laptop as the network here firewalls it. I could take the laptop home and install it, but then I imagine the network would still stop me from streaming anything anyway.

So, I'm considering getting the premium version, installing it to an external hard drive and making a shit-tonne of music available offline from there, in the hopes that I could just plug'n'play with that hard drive and get access to the playlists et al that I'd downloaded. Would this work, or am I overlooking something important? Also, can I burn tracks that I've downlaoded from spotify to discs so I can listen to them in the car?

The other idea was to get Spotify on my phone (when I get one of those new internetty phones that can do that kind of thing) but I'd have thought that streaming music to it would absolutely decimate my data allowance. Anyone have any idea how much data an hour (say) of constant spotify streaming uses up?

xx
