KNOW YOUR RUM - - - - - - - - #2

Elements Eight Spiced [40%] - St. Lucia

Introduced in Summer 2010, Elements 8 Spiced is

perhaps the first super-premium spiced rum, infused

with a variety of fruits and spices; cinnamon, ginger,

clove, star anise, vanilla, honey, nutmeg, orange,

lemon and coconut. Judging by the rave reviews this

seems to replaced the old Sailor Jerry recipe as the

must-have spiced rum. It’s even aged in bourbon

barrels to impart an even more delicious vanilla

sweetness to the complex flavour. Recommended.

KNOW YOUR VODKA - - - - - - - - #9

Bison Grass [40%] - - - - - - - - - - Poland

Dating from the 16th century, Zubrowka Bison Grass

owes its name to the aromatic grass, which grows

wild in eastern Poland, where bison live in their nat-

ural environment. Zubrowka is 100% grain vodka

with an aromatic flavour. A dry, herb-flavored vodka

distilled from rye, its unique flavor is described as

having woodruff, vanilla, coconut, lavander, jasmin

and almond notes. Every bottle contains a single

blade of grass floating around, if you care to look.

KNOW YOUR BEER - - - - - - - #12

Cave Creek Chili Beer [4.7%] - Mexico

For Crazy Ed of Cave Creek, Arizona, beer was too

important to be entrusted to outsiders. So, in 1989,

he started brewing his own. The town was suspici-

ous, but the beer was good: damn good. So good

in fact, the yuppies started driving in from all over

the USA. Something had to be done, so whenever

someone whined for a "wedge of lime", Ed started

putting a hot Serrano chili pepper into the beer

instead. Now brewed in Mexico. Golden, very low

carbonation, pale lager with a whole chili pepper in

the bottle. Try it... you know you want to... go on...

Do you still have the Nogne-O beers in stock? And Little Creatures?

If you need to get a hold of some Little Creatures then Deeside Drinks in Banchory usually has it in stock for a couple of quid a bottle (I assume their sister shop in Stoney, Dunnottar Wines, has it as well) . I love it. Great beer.

Aye, I quite often take a drive out your way to Deeside Drinks on a Saturday. Cracking wee shop.

The Dunnottar shop is quality too.... I end up spending a fortune though.
