A BRAND NEW ARRIVAL:

KNOW YOUR BEER #01

LION (STOUT)

8% - SRI LANKA

www.lionbeer.com

Surrounded by acres of tea plantations, gurgling

brooks and amazing waterfalls, the Scottish tea

planters of the 1800s lived in a veritable Garden

of Eden. The only luxury that was missing was

the temptation of a tall glass of good beer to

help while away the evenings. This oversight

was rectified when Sir Samuel Backer set up Sri

Lanka's first brewery, the Ceylon Brewery, at the

foothills of one of Nuwara Eliya's famous water-

falls, the Lovers Leap.

“Pruney, mocha aromas and flavors; tar-like

oiliness of body; peppery, bitter-chocolate finish.”

That's the Lion Stout (8%).

We also now have Lion lager (4.8%).

NEWCASTLE BROWN ALE

4.7% - ENGLAND

www.newcastlebrown.com

First brewed in 1927, Newcastle Brown Ale is a

unique and stylish premium ale with a distinct-

ive deep red colour and a rich, creamy head.

The beer is now one of the UK's leading bottled

ales and is in the top twenty highest selling

ales overall, selling around 100,000 hectolitres

annually. Newcastle Brown Ale was nicknamed

"Dog" by people living in and around the areas

of the North East of England. This stems from

the locals saying "Going to walk the dog." - an

excuse used to grab a pint at their local pub.

KNOW YOUR BEER #10

BOHEMIA CLASICA

5.3% - MEXICO

A dry, clean and hoppy pale lager. Don’t be

fooled by the dark bottle: this is a pilsner that

offers an easy-drinking balance of sweet and

bitter, sure to appeal to those who like their

beer cold, crisp and served with a slice of

lime. Launched at the turn of the 20th century

as Cervecería Cuauhtémoc Moctezuma's finest

tipple, over the years it has become the most

awarded of Mexican beers. Apparently, it’s very

good with food... so have one to wash down a

Moorings Bar panini as soon as you can. Yum.

Tried one of the new arrivals last night. The Australian 'Little Creatures Pale Ale'. Very nice! None left now though, hopefully more soon!

paleale_Large.gif

We love our Pale Ale. Many of us from the brewery have made pilgrimages around the world in search of great varieties of this wonderful style. Surprisingly, there are no great secrets to brewing this type of ale but there are most definitely no great shortcuts.

Bag loads of Cascade and Galaxy whole hop flowers that we source direct from hop growers in Victoria, Tassie and the US are thrown at this beer, creating an intense citrus and grapefruit aroma and flavour that we balance with a careful selection of specialty malts and a local pale malt made to our own specifications.

Preservative and additive free our Pale Ale is live-yeast conditioned in bottles and kegs for unmatched freshness and character.

From brewing to release, a batch of pale ale takes about six weeks, allowing for two weeks conditioning in the bottle after packaging.

No artificial additives are included, just great ingredients. Pour it into a glass to enjoy it at its best! 5.2%alc

KNOW YOUR RUM #1

Matusalem Solera 7

40% - Dominican Republic

Gold rum with a rich amber cast. This 7 year Solera

aged premium rum is true to its Cuban rum heritage.

(founded in Cuba in 1872 but forced to flee to the

Dominican Republic following the Cuban Revolution

in 1959). Rich aromatics with a whiff of sweet mola-

sses and caramel. A bouquet of creamy aromas of

vanilla enhances the flavours. Sweetness is key, as

bourbon-like wood notes highlight the flavours.

Smooth traces of vanilla and caramel in the finish.
