Gear that you want

Recommended Posts

Nah, it was a gift from Claire and it still works. It is just that it isn't up to the rigours of gigging. The other amp I am considering is:

Looks quite good, but of course a lot more expensive. It is pretty hard to find a single channel amp with lots of clean headroom these days, and I do understand that it's market driven. I had a look online at Fender Bandmaster heads from the 70's and they are good value, but I worry that I will suffer from the same issues I've had with the Sound City.

For now, my wee Fender Champ does the job. Except in Cellar 35!

Planning a downsizing later in the year, and the only incoming thing will be one of these strange Yamahas (if I can ever find one)

Yada yada, neck dive, yes Einstein, I'm aware there might be balance issues ;)

Aye - and the only place that sells them is in Guildford.

Small and portable is what I'm looking for too, space is going to be an issue for me soon - the ZT amps get rave reviews and have a ton of endorsees, but buying a solid state amp with an 8" speaker and no way of trying it doesn't seem like a good plan.

Cash Converters on George Street had a ZT lunchbox and ext cab in the front window not so long ago, its pretty specialist so it could still be there if you want to try one before you buy

I think that the F-hole is in the wrong place. I think it would look better if it was angled downwards, towards the bridge. I don't think it would be comfortable as a slab body either. I won't be buying one.

The only thing I've even been tempted by recently is a semi hollow. I've tried plenty of Epiphones - hated them all, I can't get on with the necks, a Fender Coronado (yuck) and a Fender Starcaster. I really liked the Starcaster, but since I am quite a small person, the body is too huge for me to comfortable play. Tried a Gretsch Electromatic hollowbody and that was nice too. One of these could be spicy.

I had the Jim Adkins tele, thinline with P90's a few years ago - they're nice looking but I couldn't get that tele spank out of it.

A thinline offset does appeal, probably on a larger bodied model though - I agree with the f-hole being at the wrong angle but probably the only way to fit a chamber in a body that small. There's not really a lot of room on any of the fender offsets - unless you do away with the scratchplate and rear mount everything.

A telemaster with f-holes would look pretty sexy....

Guild Starfire IV? http://guildguitars.com/g/starfire-iv/

Hagstrom Viking?  http://www.hagstromguitars.eu/index.php?option=com_zoo&view=category&Itemid=6

Hagstrom Deuce-F? http://www.hagstromguitars.eu/index.php?option=com_zoo&task=item&item_id=327&Itemid=36

The Deuce is only half (bass side) chambered rather than semi hollow in the strictest sense of the word, and the Midtown is similarly chambered rather than separate back, front, sides, centre block.  Midtown body is also a bit trimmed down compared to the ES-335/Dot/Casino size.

My friend has a midtown custom in ebony and is away to sell it. No idea why. Great guitar.

I saw that on Facebook, it looks lovely. Not sure if the neck profile would do it for me, but it's lovely nonetheless. There was a total mentalist worried that he was going to break the guitar by laying it on his stairs.
