Jaaakkkeee
To put this in perspective, I didn't even know they sold comics. <3When I say comics I don't mean Amazing Spiderman #137 or something. I mean Scott Pilgrim, Manga.. and as they put it 'Graphic Novels'.I think they have issues of stuff like The Walking Dead and that but most of the stuff is either hardcover or it's collections of issues and volumes. Nice selection though.A reason why it can't shut down, WhSmith has a lesser collection and Forbidden Planet's frequent visitors all smell. Norseman
Relating to a previous post, you can use your HMV points instore. I trade them on the website for cash top ups which are auto loaded onto the points card and you use it when you pay at the till. I buy quite a lot off the HMV website so regularly have 10 credits added to my points card every few months which I spend in the Aberdeen store. Alan Cynic
Like everyone else I'll feel sorry for the staff if HMV closes, but it won't affect me much, as I don't buy DVDs, and usually buy CDs from One-Up. Most of the stuff I buy is on small labels, and HMV rarely had it (sometimes One-Up doesn't manage to order it either, so Mono in Glasgow wins).HMV always felt like a Tescos anyway (to me). Lemonade
Like everyone else I'll feel sorry for the staff if His Master's Voice closes, but it won't affect me much, as I don't buy VHS, and usually buy my 8-track cartridges from One-Up. Most of the stuff I buy is on grampophone, and HMV rarely had it (sometimes One-Up doesn't manage to order it either, so F W Woolworth in Glasgow wins).HMV always felt like a Fine-Fare anyway (to me).Fixed, for no reason other than to be a bit of an annoying wank. Sorry.

FOX
HMV always felt like a Tescos anyway (to me).A very dark Tesco's with The Killers blaring out tinny speakers.

Le Stu
I can't see the point of HMV anymore, they should be concentrating on being a music specialist or just stick to blu-rays and games. I still buy CDs but there's no point me even checking in there for what I want. Also, second hand market is key to survival. maybe a large minority of people rip CDs and then flog them back the next week, so just stick 'em a second hand aisle at marginally cheaper prices. I've been to giant indie stores in the states where it's a 50/50 split and the range is just... knees get wobbly, the first time anyway. Alan Cynic
I would've gone into HMV more often if they'd had a second-hand section.
kirsten
I thought HMV bought the remaining FOPP stores? So if HMV goes, Fopp aint coming back. Sad really, I met some lovely people working in Waterstones, but if one of them goes I can picture it being the Langstane branch which is rubbish because it's got better books.Sadly, I think you're right, despite us having a pretty decent christmas.Had so many people come in today and ask if we were shutting down. I had my stock-response of "Do you know something I don't?" ready. Heard that Pizza Hut on Union Street is closing down, so if your Waterstone's takes it over to make a megasuperhyperbookshop, maybe our lot will all get a job down there
Lemonade
I love the second hand section in One Up, the best bit is randomly picking up something you've never heard of for 2, then getting it home and finding out it's fucking ace. In fact I'm listening to one of those right now, The Posies "Frosting On The Beaters" album, I was browsing through the second hand section when I spotted it and I bought it cos I thought The Posies was a cool band name, it's one of my favourite albums now. Lemonade
Ive done that in HMV as well, woah!I stocked up on 1 albums at the Fopp closing down sale when it was under Markies, the only criteria were it had to be stuff I'd never heard of, and it had to have a cool front cover! Most of them were utter shite unfortunately, but there were a couple of gems, including these two.
Guest davetherave
I liked Fopp, shame they closed, like most of you guys I buy many of my CDs at One Up or online. I dont think I'd miss HMV too much, if it does close I hope all the staff find suitable employment elsewhere? I would hate to see all CD shops disapear though, its good to browse the racks for new stuff and old classics, cant do that online!I remember going into some of the big Tower Records stores (there was a four story one in Toronto), amazing selection, old or new, you name it, they stocked it. Skull Commander
I can't see them closing the Aberdeen HMV. There are plenty of towns and cities with two or more stores, as well as smaller shops. They will be the first to go.

Could see the smaller one on Sauchiehall Street going.
Guest Gladstone
HMV shuts 60 shops in battle to survive - TelegraphThis article actually says the 60 stores that will be closed will be in places where there are more than 1 store, so that would suggest Aberdeen HMV is safe. RF Scott
Whether you shop there or not, it's looking to be a bad thing for music in general - in a lot of towns it's the only place left where you can buy music. Not to mention how bad Waterstones downsizing/closing will be for authors and the book world.
Le Stu
Maybe they can turn it around. Bit shit for the poor workers but it's better than going the way of woolies and having to lay off everyone.Next might be in trouble as well and we have rather a lot of them. I'm still quite surprised at how well British retail has held up, given the depth of the recession we had.

Skubbs
I would miss Waterstones if it closed down, and why does Glasgow need three HMV's? I think it's mad they sell Celtic stuff, especially with a Celtic store just down the road from them.
