Friends of Union Terrace Gardens in conjunction with Interesting Music Promotions are delighted to be hosting this fantastic evening of eclectic entertainment. 2010 has been, and early 2011 will be, a battleground for the future of the people's beautiful green space in the centre of Aberdeen. To help us to save and improve UTG, a massive campaign of awareness and actions will take place in early 2011. To help the group Friends of Union Terrace Gardens maximise all possible effort to save UTG, we require supporters of UTG to get behind us to give us the best chance of winning. Basically, its now or never.

Please help by coming to the events we organise, pass the word, join up, buy the UTG product, it helps us greatly...

Please come along enjoy this night and look out for more to come. Massive thanks to all those magnificent artists who have travelled to Aberdeen, whether they are fellow Aberdonians or not. Massive thanks to talented friends playing or DJing tonight - all have given their time free gratis and we are humbled by their generosity. Also massive thanks to One Up Records - our local independent record shop

You will be among many friends old and new.

The plan

COPY HAHO / TEENAGE LUST DJs from 8pm to midnight

STEVEN MILNE DJ from 12pm to 2am

MC for the night is the wonderfully talented ALAN DAVIDSON. A firm favourite whatever the guise, Alan has been wowing audiences all over the place with his solo project The Kitchen Cynics and fluctuating line-up ensemble Matricarians. Alan has a wide knowledge of the history of Aberdeen and the North East, and in the opinion of lots of people is a very fine a MC. Alan compered our event in Cafe Drummonds in June - expect the unexpected.

The artists below are not listed in any particular order

BEAT HOTEL - a Jasmine Minks and Creation Records supergroup

Jim Shepherd (lead singer and songwriter) and Dave Musker of The Jasmine Minks, plus Dave Morgan (drummer of The Weather Prophets, The Loft and The Rockingbirds), join Paul Pascoe (Mudlow, Palm Springs, Fire Eyes) and Arash Torabi (bass-player in former June Brides singer, Phil Wilsons band and also The Granite Shore).

The Jasmine Minks, the Loft and The Weather Prophets were amongst the first bands on the roster for Alan McGees hugely influential and iconic Creation Records in the early-mid-80s, releasing many singles and albums that set the blueprint for the British indie sound. Jim Shepherd and Dave Morgan are lending their experience to Beat Hotel, who have been resurrected after a long hiatus. The band will be showcasing both sides of their soon-to-be-released single, The Fire, as well as highlights from Jim Shepherds wonderful Jasmine Minks repertoire and a few surprises.

During their time on Creation, The Jasmine Minks released five albums and a handful of unforgettable singles, including the beautiful Cold Heart, the punked-out soulful stomping Think! and the classic Where the Traffic Goes, which has lent its name to the current popular club-night in Brighton. After the demise of Creation, The Jasmine Minks reconvened for more releases on McGees next label, Poptones, the label that gave us The Hives. Dave Morgan is a drum legend, whose impressive CV includes playing on Primal Screams first album, Sonic Flower Groove, as well as records with Vic Godard, Alternative TV, The Revolving Paint Dream, The Jazz Butcher and Heidi Berry.

THE ARTIST FORMERLY KNOWN AS SID OZALID

Sid Ozalid first burst onto the scene in 1978 as a one legged tap dancing poet. The Tap Dancing Robert Burns would dance with his pet monkey, thrash himself with a daisy and beat his head with a tin tray all in the name of art. During this time he provided support for such acts as Simple Minds, The Clash, The Specials, OMD and may more, some of whom asked for him to be removed from the building.

He published Scotland's best selling postcard of May 1979 (My Tortoise can burst into Flames) and a book of poems Front Page Sensation. In the early 80s he went on to perform at the Edinburgh Festival, stunning audiences with shows such as My Grannys a Cowboy and I was a teenage Xmas Tree. He started performing with Jeremy Thom, as Sid and Sam the Ozalid Twins and later with his Legendary All-stars. In 1982 he released a musical book Songs and Stories from a Suitcase Extravaganza (his original All-stars were a collection of toys and inflatable legs that he carried around in a suitcase). 1984 he made it to the finals of BBC Scotland's Stars in your Eyes talent show, coming in a splendid last place. In the late 80s he performed at the Moulin Rouge in Paris accompanied by Gerry mad man Bongo. From 1988 1992 he co-presented Invisible Radio on Northsound Radio, followed by a spell of showing his small parts on TV, once playing football with Scots legend Denis Law and later portraying mass murder Denis Neilson on CH4 Evil.

From 1996 98 he ran and MCd the Laughing Carrot Comedy Club under his real name Doogallie Woogallie is a Go-Go. After a short period of madness, he got himself a new bike and cycled across the Sinai Desert, he performed with 'The Talking Handbags' in 2005 then back on the bike to cycle round Cuba, along the Great Wall of China and down the left hand coast of India.

He is now only slightly interesting and lives in a shoe. He returns to IMP for the first time since the Ivor Cutler tribute night.

FIONA SOE PAING

Fiona is receiving rave reviews for her skeletal electronica and visuals, and now her new project website has been launched we can see why. Vic Galloway on BBC Radio Scotland and Steven Severin of Souixise & The Banshees are big fans of Fiona's work live and on record. A lady definitely on the rise - you will see why.

AMY SAWERS

Amy Sawers has an extraordinary voice, as good as any of her contemporaries and at a time when the seam is rich. Having done lots of festivals in the past, its marvellous to have Amy playing our soiree tonight. As anyone knows with the singing Sawers family expect something truly great. Amy has only had a couple of live dates lately as she had a break to have a lovely baby girl. We are delighted Amy will perform a solo slot.

BELLOC'S BAR

Belloc's Bar is a pop band based in Aberdeen. Formed in 2009 and featuring members of The Deportees, Cobra Kai and Glasgow funk poppers Dr. Pop, Belloc's Bar follow the pop tradition of Jellyfish, XTC, Ben Folds and Divine Comedy. Belloc's Bar are just a bunch of pop tarts. A new name for us all but perhaps the makings of something fine. No pushing them, lets see how they develop.

THE GREEN MAN

This mysterious artist came into prominence after he played a superb live number in UTG one Sunday afternoon as part of 10:10. A true kindred spirit of UTG.

PLUS - there maybe a few surprise drop in guests...

Gutted tha The Deportees couldn't play due to an unavoidable double-booking for Mo, but it will be an honour to drum for Diarmaid's belloc's bar project. The cause deserves everybody's support.

Its great the way the Aberdeen & NE music peeps support our efforts to retain & improve UTG
