modman
Why did you leave the store with an amp that was crackling?Sorry if im being stupid here, but i wouldn't have left unless it was fixed.?I didn't. This was when Minge-tickler agreed (after I had reminded him that I had spent 1000s in his store) to take it back in to re-check it. I left my crackling amp with them for the next 5 days, during which time they subjected it to this 6 hour soak test and found nothing wrong, yet changed my preamp valves. It still crackles. And splutters, and distorts, and cuts out completely. But apparently there is nothing wrong with it.

fatboy
This is hilarious. Thanks for the advice but I have absolutely no idea what your post means. It seems you contradict yourself several times throughout. You also seem to consider yourself an authority on several issues pertaining to my situation. Did you personally observe me going into R&B Music "with guns blazing" because I can assure you I did not. I became angry with Minge-tickler's insulting and arrogant attitude and also with his immediate (and I mean within seconds, without even switching my amp on) insistence that his shop could not possibly be to blame. This, I made perfectly clear, as is my right. But I did not raise my voice and did not insult anybody. I am a perfectly articulate fellow who doesn't need to act like a child to have his point heard. As for your insistence that my moaning will devalue my case: Firstly I wasn't aware I was moaning. This is only the 4th post I have made on a thread stretching way past 100. Secondly, I do not have a case to devalue. But I have a right to post what I want and from the responses to this thread I would suggest that there are a lot of sympathisers out there. Thanks though. Especially for the jumper analogy. That was great.i wasnt contradicting myselfi was making you aware of possibilties that you may have not considered, as you sait you have hit the roof and remained up there ever sincemany murders have happend when people "hit the roof" i hope you dont murder mingetickleranalogymanny walks into his bedroom to find his wife fucking his best mate, he hits the roof and haymakers both of them into a comayou think his actions were reasonable or logically thought out?the logical thing would be to walk away from the situation, but no blind rage made this man punch his wife and lover and he will have to suffer consquencesendall your rage is doing to you is making you stamp your feet and complain seeking sympathy for what is doneif you were more pro active go get something done about it!!!!id be more satisfied if i managed to get them to fix my amp by all means necessary, even if it includes going to trading standards, if i was in your situationmore rewarding than just posting on here what you got to loose by going to trading standards?im on no-ones side here thats why the statements contradic each otherif you feel that you have to spend alot of time on here typing about your unfortunate event rather than logically trying to solve this problem then your wasting your own timeok i have been made aware of what minge ticklers customer service is like, but you have a personal problem on your hands here and by trying to evoke peoples decision to shop there is a bit selfishpeople will shop there if they want regardless of what you tell them based upon your experiencesim not very good with english/writing so please forgive my poor sentence structures and spellingI did well at maths tho!

modman
Re Fatboy. I love the way you start by saying that you don't contradict yourself, then half way down you rationalise your previous contradictions. That's like some sort of triple-barrel contradiction within the space of one post; possibly a record. Congratulations, I also nominate you for post of the year (is there an official poll?)I didn't actually hit the roof; it's just a saying. I'm actually a very mellow fellow, which is how I know that my anger here is justified. I suppose it feels like even more of a travesty because I am aware that Minge-tickler is also the owner of a Fender Twin. He charged me money to essentially damage mine, money that is, metaphorically speaking of course, a fart against thunder in relation to what this guy earns (fair play to the guy), yet can go home at night and play his own, fully functional, Fender Twin. I bet Mrs Tickler even gets to play it too. I do find it amusing how you continue to implore me to do something abou this situation. It's funny primarily because I hadn't actually considered it myself. My girlfriend and family are becoming worried about me; they're concerned about the fact that all I've done in the past 2 months is sit at my computer and type out ill-thought out, angry posts on this forum, for 20 hours a day. I barely sleep or eat; I haven't gone to work for over 2 months; haven't shaved. I even piss into a volvic bottle whenever my bladder becomes full of the copious bottles of cheap Spar whisky I've been downing every day. In short I need help. So I'm so glad you posted. It has presumably not crossed your mind that I am simultaneously exploring other avenues of complaint as well as other methods with which to address the main problem: my broken amp. Believe me, if I was attempting to instigate a full-blown smear campaign against R&B music, I would not use a relatively innocuous local music forum as the vehicle. But it isn't me who has kept this post running for so long. Thanks again for your reply though, dude.

jon
The last few pages of this have really made me chortle, but to get back to the orignal point...Regardless of what actually happened, it doesn't sound like R&B are likely to help you out anytime soon. From my own experience in the trade, shop owners can get very sniffy about repairs which they have taken in (and then passed on to whoever does the actual repair), regardless of whether the problem has been fixed or not. I'm not saying this has happened here, but I can think of several occasions when my old boss brazenly claimed something was "working fine" or producing "normal background noise that a bit of WD40 will fix" whilst an amp/guitar/fx unit was sizzling like a barbeque. What I would say though is that, despite having direct access to the engineers who worked for the shop, I took my amp directly to Dennis Marshall. There is no bullshit, no sales nonsense and, to be frank, no-one better qualified to fix a guitar amplifier. If you need to ensure your Twin is working sooner rather than later, drop him and email and then go and see him. It will be worth it.Also, just for fun, "these examples are thin". Thin. Christy
This thread makes my head hurt. Modman is sharing his experiences of some poor service from a major local music shop. While I don't expect anybody to thank him per se, he is potentially preventing some board members from suffering a similar experience. Fatboy's quite peculiar musings seem to overlook this fact.Odd odd odd.

modman
Well, after taking my amp to a well known specialist (fantastic, honest guy with years of experience) it looks like the Twin is fixed. It sailed through Oxjam without a problem and it looks like it's back on form again. It took him all of 2 minutes to find the cause of the problem. There was no 6+ hour soak test required; we simply switched it on and tapped the top until the fault made itself heard (immediately). He went over and above the call of duty to ensure that the problem won't happen again, and he has given me his word (which apparently means a fair bit) that the thing is now solid as a rock. No 7+ preamp valves needing replaced at my expense; no faulty brand new 6L6 Groove Tubes. Simply a very bad connection, apparently most likely caused by the last person to open up the chassis and attempt a repair! Interesting that. The other interesting think he told me (and all budding amp repair peeps should take note) was that a soak test is often a completely unreliable way of discerning a problem with an amplifier, regardless of how long a test is given and what volume it is set at. Apparently some amps perform badly under small signal conditions but when you turn them up loud on a soak test they won't miss a beat. So the previous poster's assertion that the 6+ hour soak test should have been adequate for the problem to present itself isn't quite true. Indeed the problem that presented itself instore that day that I initially took the amp back, when the amp was set on the counter, cranked to only 3 - the fault that was ignored and denied by all present other than myself - was the problem that has now (fingers crossed) been fixed. If all goes well this friday at the Beach Ballbag then I'll relax and accept that I have my pride and joy back. Still haven't received a reply to my letter from Mingetickler mind you. That's been nearly a month now. It's not that difficult to put pen to paper is it.....?
