Funny you should say that, the era that Knopfler used the Soldano (late 80s early 90s) is to me his least interesting tone wise, usually his tone is very distinctive but on stuff like Calling Elvis it was more generic.

Twas the amp of choice for many a shredder or rocker in the 80's and 90's as well, George Lynch, Mick Mars and so on. I think Mick Mars still uses them.

Gary Moore was using one for his 90's era and think he may still be using one.

They can be heavily modded amps if required, heard some awesome sounding ones over the years.
