WASHINGTON IRVING

...rich Americana country-styled songs, led by personal yet universal lyrics that demonstrates a healthy confidence in their own voice and place."

The Skinny - November 2009

Washington Irving are band of five exquisitely dressed gentlemen and one lady, who perform a riotous mixture of folk, pop and indie complete with piccolo. They have notable influences including Glasgow indie bands such as Teenage Fanclub and Belle and Sebastian as well as modern folk bands such as The Pogues and Arcade Fire, while at the same time creating a sound all of their own. A positively endearing band with jaunty heartfelt tunes, don't miss them, theyre quite simply good as folk.

thought velvet audio were ok. v tight, polished, sounded nothing like their "influences". first song i was impressed with, it reminded me of phoenix.

washington irving were a treat. usually bands that deploy uke and flute liberally sound a bit samey but this lot were all over the map stylisticalalalally.

paws should consider a name change to "tits" or "bollocks", prefixed by the definite article. cos they really were. scuzzy, crunchy, dischordant awesomeness. worth staying up late on one hour's sleep for. can't wait to see them next time they're up. cd is mint too.

props to steven milne as well, was going to head home from exhaustion but ended up showing thrapes to all comers during his somewhat eclectic set. great job!

Paws are a great little band. Don't think they'll be little for much longer, though.

They're opening up for No Age and Male Bonding in Glasgow later in the year - what a fucking gig!

Thursday was a great night which exemplified exactly what the DHC is about for me - a few good bands including some out of towners with a good boogie after.

Ace night.
