THE LOW ANTHEM

Recently announced as Breakthrough Act of the year at the MOJO Magazine Awards, and riding high on the back of triumphant performances at last years Glastonbury, SXSW, Lollapalooza, and Newport festivals, The Low Anthem are one of the music worlds most hotly tipped acts right now. Their unique brand of Americana makes room for gospel, folk, and blues and manages to rise way above its influences, through its startling lyrical imagery and magical melodies. The Low Anthems musical palette is a very broad one, hushed solemn moments are punctuated by soaring rock-outs, which show off some apocalyptic folk influences.

After making their independent debut with 2007's What the Crow Brings, the band rang in 2008 by recording an album with producer Jesse Lauter which the band initially self-released under the title Oh My God, Charlie Darwin. As their buzz continued to build, the Low Anthem signed a contract with Nonesuch Recordings and reissued Oh My God in 2009

"The Low Anthem could have sprung fully formed off a Fillmore poster, circa 1968: one part Dylan's erudition, one part Neil Young's hallucinatory visions, one part The Band's rootsy austerity, one part Leonard Cohen's apocalyptic melancholy." (Uncut)

"ethereal transcendence laden with poignancy" (The Guardian)

"The Low Anthem are a classic American band in the making. Their last album, Oh My God Charlie Darwin, which came out on Bella Union last year, fired up the MOJO readers' imagination with its mix of Dylan-meets-Waits Americana. To be honest, they're still a well kept secret but this year will belong to them. MOJO readers prove themselves once again one step ahead of the pack by voting them the Breakthrough Act of the last 12 months." (Phil Alexander, MOJO Editor-In-Chief)
