Guest idol_wild
I worked at NHS Practitioner Services for about 3 months on a temporary contract a couple of years back and I recall them enforcing quite a strict IT policy (unsurprisingly). One way of getting round the policy was to use a particular URL in the brower that hid the URL of every site that was visited thereafter. Therefore, I could go on myspace/facebook/porn/streaming media and all that good stuff without it being detected or blocked.I'm now in a similar role and I can't for the life of me remember how I did it back then. Any pointers? I've done a couple of quick hunts but I can't uncover anything.
Adam Easy Wishes
Couldn't give you a URL but I'd be careful about proxies like that, my work go tits over them. Essentially a sackable offence to be using one.

Frosty Jack
You need a proxy server, but whether it works or not depends on how clued up the IT department are. Some have sussed out this 'trick' and are good at blocking them, or as Adam says it may be considered a disciplinary thing. I don't think the NHS are particularly hot though, so it's up to you if you want to risk it. There's a list of proxies to try hereProxy Sitesbut if you get sacked you didn't get it from here... MattJimF
There were people saying they could access those sites by using bing.com to search for stuff, not sure how good it actually works though.

Guest idol_wild
You could just do your jobMy job is to man a 24 hour contact centre for fishing vessels. It's not often busy and when the administrative duties associated with it are complete, then there is literally nothing to do - the contact centre has a TV player and a DVD player, which probably tells you a little more about the nature of the job. It's fucking great, frankly. Guest idol_wild
It kinda depends on how they manage the internet access at your work. Ours is filtered through the proxy and also is restricted through security groups. Could be more hassle than it's worth. Is it a stand-alone machine or do you have to use your own login?Personal username login.I think the government will have pretty solid IT policies in place, so I don't think I'll have much luck. Cloud
Would a VPN not work? You'd have to pay for it, but I doubt that they would restrict access to VPN providers - and you would be able to surf whatever you wanted through them without any hassle. I use one here to access UK-only stuff.
