offramp
interesting music promotions and The Tunnels presentACOUSTIC LADYLAND + MIN DIESELFriday 2nd April 2010The Tunnels, Carnegies Brae, Aberdeen, AB10 1BF. Phone (01224) 211121Doors 8pmTickets 10+bf in adv / 12 on doorAvailable from One-Up Records, Belmont Street, Aberdeen. Phone (01224) 642662 or http://www.ticketweb.co.uk]http://www.myspace.com/interestingmusichttp://www.thetunnels.co.ukACOUSTIC LADYLANDBonding over a mutual distaste for musical sterility and an inclination toward the more exciting and dangerous end of modern music, Acoustic Ladyland have been blowing minds since their inception in 2001. The band is Pete Wareham (saxophone), the recently-joined Chris Sharkey (guitar) Ruth Goller (bass) and Sebastian Rochford (drums). This fresh incarnation of Acoustic Ladyland sets the bar even higher than before and has arguably achieved their most potent and lucid album to date, the long-awaited Living With A Tiger (out July 6th 2009). Their previous three albums have won them a host of awards and critical acclaim, so if thats anything to go by, this brand-new music should go down a storm.Recently, individual band members have recorded and performed with an enormous array of artists, including Supergrass, Brian Eno, David Byrne, Polar Bear, Trio VD, Jack De Johnette, Basquiat Strings and Dennis Hopper Choppers along with various other writing and recording projects. With their legion of fans including discerning types like Scott Walker, Chris Morris and the Mighty Boosh, experiencing Acoustic Ladyland live is not to be missed.Acoustic Ladyland return with a ferocious, slash-and-burn, minimalist sound that already makes this a contender for alt. jazz album of the year. (***** TIME OUT)A ferociously good third setsounds like a group cranked up on crystal meth. (**** MOJO)"The latest incarnation of this tremendous, unpindownable London band puts together the visceral immediacy of punk and the chops and creativity of jazz quite unlike anyone else." (**** THE GUARDIAN)"Acoustic Ladyland perform with a vigour that makes the sacking of Rome seem like a mild civic disturbance." (**** THE TIMES)Is it jazz? Is It punk? Who knows, and indeed, who cares? Living With A Tiger sees them in rampant form. (NME)Theres nothing ladylike or acoustic about Londons ferocious, experimental jazz-punk-rock collectivea vital, vocal-less roar of a record which sounds like jazz done by Jack White. (**** LONDON LITE)Lets hear it for Living With A Tiger, which makes a point of scrambling everybodys tastes (**** OMM)Living With A Tiger turns hostile territory into refreshing enjoyment (*** Q)http://www.myspace.com/acousticladylandmusicMIN DIESELZippy, Stu and David are your new favourite mindie-rockers - influenced by Fugazi, Pavement and Shellac.http://www.myspace.com/mindieseluk

Captain America
Honestly Acoustic Ladyland went on a bit too long for me. I was really enjoying it right up until the final 15 minutes when I'd just lost interest in it. Drummer was immense though.Really liked Min Diesel some cool grooves being chucked out sadly couldn't really make out much of what was being sung. Still very enjoyable though.I do slightly begrudge paying 12 to get in though. No slight on the venue or musicians but in my opinion 12 was very steep for what was about 2 hours of music. The Kernel Loaf
Acoustic Ladyland were on fire, although I can't help but feel they have lost a bit of appeal for me without their keyboard player. It gave the tunes a nicer edge compared to guitar.Even though they are hardly similar, I still prefer Polar Bear live. I can't recommend them enough, even if jazz isn't your thing. Seb mentioned they may be playing in October. There's an interview and a couple of songs from their new album here:Paul Morley showing off ...
