Adam Easy Wishes
what is the difference between 50k and 250k pot - Google Search
Lame Guitarist
I presume you meant a 500k and not a 50?My advice would be to use 500k for all pots in a guitar. It gives you a much fuller tone. Not much more that I can saypsfor metal I would say bare knuckle warpigs or Emg 81 and 85 are popular pickups. Even JB seymour duncans would do the job. Seymour duncan have a model out called blackouts I think as well that are similar to the EMG models
HateEvent
Generally:25K - Active pickups (EMG 60, 81, 81TW, 85, 89, S, SA; Seymour Duncan Blackout, Livewire).250K - Passive single coil pickups.500K - Passive humbucker pickups.Higher resistance pots (for example 1M (1000K) on a passive humbucker) would make it alot brighter sounding. Hog
25k sounds like the choice of men.

TelecasterSam
On a similar vein....I am absolutely crap at soldering....(my hands and eyes are not steady enough!)and I have a Tele needing the pu's soldering/testing....(on a self build)Anyone give me some advice on who can do this for me, and where, how much?thanks in advance...Sam
fatboy
soldering is all about practising, make sure you heat the wires enough so you dont get dry joints, if you tin the wires before joining them this can free up your hands a bit,as for the pickups are they 4 wire or 2 wire type? TelecasterSam
2 wire type......Back/White with ground I DO know how to solder, tinning and all that....(on larger stuff) its just, eyesight not so good and hands shake a little too much for delicate thin wires, that I know I'd end up burning through em, and fucking it all up...LOL
