RISE

Scottish rockers Rise are inspired by iconic bands, mainly from the 70s and 80s, including Thin Lizzy and AC/DC. The four-piece, just over a year old, have already supported Scottish rock legends Gun. They provide a raw rock sound with a few twists which is producing a growing following - and the Gaudie has described them as "sex-driven"...

SCUNNER

Scunner... Where to begin? How to describe? Cabaret meets Music Hall, meets indie-pop, meets Art-School rock? With outrageous dress sense (feathers! sequins!) and shares in guy-liner, these Glaswegian oddballs are making the long trip north once more.

THE ACID FASCISTS

"In his novel, The Autobiography of a Brown Buffalo, Oscar Zeta Acosta refers to Charles Manson's family as acid fascists. We like to believe that an alternate universe exists where Manson chose the path of rock n roll over the insanity of racism and celebrity slaughter. In this universe we would be his band," contend the Edinburgh-based garage freak-rockers.

THE CITY RISES

Hey! What do you sound like?

"'The sound that seemed to come from all around them was a soft regular drumbeat. The rhythm was slower than that of the light, and somehow seemed out of phase with it. As the speed of the drumbeats increased, Butler felt a sudden wave of satisfaction, and a desire for further complexity that was immediately satisfied, as if by telepathy, as whining electronic noises and a sharp twanging joined the drumbeats. He was reminded suddenly, with hallucinatory clarity, of a celluloid pan-pipe he used to possess as a child."

Ah, ok.

(You'll also be able to vote for all your favourite local acts in our local awards ceremony for local bands, The Fudge Awards 2010. You'll get a voting slip at the door).
