Lemonade
I'm looking for a program which will record sound that I'm playing through my sound card, eg. if I'm streaming a video on Youtube, or playing a DVD, I can just hit record and record the sound straight from it, without needing microphones and stuff. It's mostly for taking samples that I can use in songs. And general hi-jinks. Not piracy.Does such a program exist (free) and where can I get it? Soda Jerk
Audacity is a free and stripped down program. Really easy to use and is totally decent for what it is. It can also multi track, for if you want to record some guitar or vocal layers, and has heaps of effects and shit. You will just need to change the input setting from microphone to stereo mix, so it captures what your computer is playing, rather than what your microphone is picking up. I've just downloaded one called Audio Recorder For Free which claims to be able to do it, and I've got it set to Stero Mix but it's just recording silence, the cunt.Bear in mind I am not very technically minded... Soda Jerk
I think Audacity is what most folk would use for this kind of thing, but I may be wrong. As a copout, if there's anything specific you need to sample though, I could easy do it for you. Double click the volume icon (little speaker down by the clock in the bottom right corner) and check the settings. Tinker with the different volumes and make sure the mute boxes are unchecked. Or shite.I managed to get Audacity to record some guitar once, via a line in. I just can't get it to record anything else.
FatHand
I used Audacity to sample sections of songs and at worst it's a bit fiddly. You have to import the audio file into Audacity which brings up the audio file as a waveform. Then to sample it you simply need to find the bits you want, highlight them, cut them out and drop into blank track. Use the help function or go to a more specialist forum, most questions like this have been asked before I find. Also sometimes ther are tutorials on youtube... Paulscoconutass
I used one on my PC called Any Sound Recorder (ASR) and it worked a fucking treat. Any Sound Recorder - Home Yaldy! Can't get any free ones to work on my mac though, which is a pain in the arse. Tried Audacity but need to buy it... Though I'm running XP on my desktop PC and I have the same problem with that, it's just recording silence.
