"We are Big Ned. We are Doom 'n' Roll. We are a band from Glasgow. We like slow bluesy Rock music and we like Country and Western. We like David Lynch movies. We love dark Americana. We love trance. We think three chords is too much."

"To say that Glasgows Big Ned are the first signing to the newly-inaugurated Optimo Music label (formerly Oscarr) might give some idea as to where theyre coming from. An exciting and challenging place, sure, but possibly one which has more in common with stomping their way around the countrys dark cellar nightclubs than finding widespread success. They call themselves doomnroll and cites their influences as being drugs and alcohol. Theyre also big David Lynch fans, which is no surprise; the quintet are like some bad dream blend of Nick Cave, Elvis Presley and Throbbing Gristle. Murderously-baritoned lead singer Minister John Murray wears a bare chest and Stetson like an extra from Cruising, and coils his mic cable like a lasso. Big Ned are dark and weird, and conjure a powerful black atmosphere which feels like its dripping from the ceiling. Framed alternately by a strobe and a hellish red light, they burn for just half an hour, then theyre gone." - THE LIST, APRIL 2009

Three hellbound souls on the last train to rock n roll rythmn n groove oblivion. Taking the mainline through the Mississippi Delta and picking up the ferocity and groove of The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, the fuzzed up frenzy of British & US Freakbeat & Psych, the laid back swagger of the Bad Seeds, the gutteral howl of the Cramps and the insistent drunken thump of Tom Waits on the way, Tupelo Town Assembly blaze a down and dirty blues soaked path not to be missed by any self respecting fan of this genre.

Bainbridge fuse Datsuns riffs to Rolling Stones rhythms to create an incendiary sound which mixes classic and contemporary influence. They live in Edinburgh these days, so this is something of a homecoming show...
