MALCOLM MIDDLETON

Malcolm Middleton

Malcolm Middleton (born 31 December 1973 in Falkirk, Scotland) is a Scottish musician best known for his work with Aidan Moffat in post-folk indie band Arab Strap and his solo single "We're All Going To Die". To date, Middleton has released four studio albums, with his fifth, Waxing Gibbous, due for release June 1, 2009. Following the release of this album and its subsequent tour, Middleton states that his career as a solo artist will be on hiatus: "I want to try something new and then come back to this later on."

THE PICTISH TRAIL is the nom de plume of 26-yr-old singer-songwriter Johnny Lynch, who - alongside Kenny Anderson (aka KING CREOSOTE) - runs micro-indie DIY label Fence Records, in a remote fishing village in Fife, Scotland. Over the past 5 years hes recorded various limited-release mini-albums, EPs and singles of his own material for the Fence label, whilst contributing dozens of songs to numerous Fence Collective compilations - all from the confines of his bedroom. Now, with SECRET SOUNDZ Vol.1, he is ready to get out of his pyjamas, and release his first full-length solo-album proper!

Although born and raised in Edinburgh, Johnny spent his entire teenage life in America, hovering over the shelves of tiny record shops in suburban Connecticut before moving out to the Wisconsin wilderness. Falling in love with the music of The Beta Band, Belle & Sebastian and The Delgados, and starting to write music of his own, he ventured back to Scotland at the turn of the century - meeting Kenny within a week of his return. Fast forward to 2008, and as well as running the Fence Records label full-time, and organising all live Fence events (including the annual Homegame Festival in Anstruther), The Pictish Trail is an extremely active member of The Fence Collective. He has written-for / played-with numerous bands (including UNPOC, Adem, The Three Craws, The Red Well, Gangplank) - and has collaborated with practically every member of the Collective, including leading lights James Yorkston, Lone Pigeon, HMS Ginafore, Pip Dylan ... and not least label/Collective founder, King Creosote, with whom he has played guitar and sang since 2003.
