ghost Posted May 13, 2009 Report Share Posted May 13, 2009 SM57s are unpowered so need XLR (I know Ian already said this, thought I'd explain why). You need a mic preamp if you want to use 1/4" to give the signal a boost.That's one of the main reasons why I bought a AKG C1000S. Battery powered.
