jcn
It will increase if we get a good turnout. That's the minimum prize, which I think is pretty good, not to mention 2nd, 3rd, bad beat and high hand prizes.

Dave-IRL
if it was a cash prize as opposed to a bar tab you'd probably get more poker players through the door
jcn
ok good point, want to encourage as many people as possible, and I guess there's nothing better than cold hard cash Or maybe a bit of both? 1st prize 50 cash and a few beer tokens? Teabags
Wednesday is the same night as the Red Tooth poker league game at The Northern Bar. 5 freezeout with a 100 cash prize pot (usually paying 80 for 1st and 20 for 2nd).There's usually between 28 to 40 players at that. It's also the 10 freezeout at International Casino, and whatever game is at the G.Hmmmm. soundian
As far as I know the rules on poker in pubs, you might want to revise your plan. The Northern bar better take another look at the rules as well. You can't charge an entry fee. Sure, you can charge for the poker school bit at the start but you can't charge anyone who turns up afterwards and wants a game. Some other things you might want to know: There's a 5 per head maximum stake per game. There's a 100 limit per day per premises on stakes and prizes, no matter how many games you have. Beer vouchers will count towards that limit, as do any donated prizes. The house isn't allowed to take a rake. All stakes must be paid out in prize money.http://www.gamblingcommission.gov.uk/UploadDocs/publications/Document/Advice%20on%20gaming%20in%20clubs%20and%20alcohol%20licensed%20premises.pdf

If there are more than 20 players, any excess money from the 5 stakes is divided equally and given back to each player in change.

chowdadawg
The poker night at the tunnels is aimed at the complete novice player. The lesson for the first hour will be to teach about the very basics of what beats what, the structure of the betting and blinds, and the other rules and etiquette. For the first night it is run we chose to make the prizes bar tabs rather than cash in order to keep it within the law, but as some of you mentioned in posts, if it is legal to give the prizes as cash instead I will aim to do this. There won't be any rake taken, and it will be self deal. The night isn't designed with pro players in mind and is in a totally different league to the likes of the G and International casino games. If you have never played texas hold em before and you wish to know how to, this event will be ideal for you to learn.Hope this clears up any confusion.See y'all at the eventChowdadawg 8-)
