Somewhere quiet, ie no BIG SCREEN SPORT and a bunch of rowdy cunts watching the rugby or with jeff stelling bellowing out the football results in the background. Murrr
Blackfriar's has been pretty nifty every time I've been (the last time was almost a year ago, though). Pleasant atmosphere and not too many lairy lads roaming around the place. Might be pretty busy on a Saturday, though.

Old Gold
I had some grub in Ma's lately that was pretty decent.
pogofish
The Globe, or Fusion across the road if you are feeling flush.
MattJimF
the howff? not sure on the sport front, but always good food.
The59Sound
Blackfriars and Ma Cameron's are both good shouts, they're excellent.

At least in the globe there's tables right up the back away from the sport. I'm not a fan of blackfriars, last time i was in there the food was ming and i said i wouldn't go back. How is the illicit still for food? I didn't know the howff did food.

Chris
McGinty's, where Frankensteins used to be, is pretty good. Much better than Frankensteins used to be. Though it'll have football/rugby on.To be honest you'll be hard pressed to find somewhere that's not showing sport today.
Alan Cynic
The Prince of Wales doesn't show sport........it used to do good bar lunches, but I haven't had one for a while, and I don't know how late they serve.
Gus Chamber
Food in the Howff is awesome! Massive portions for very reasonable prices Again, seconded. They also do half portions for half the price of the main dish.
Alan Cynic
Agree about their food, but it's hard to avoid the televised sport in the Howff (not that I want to avoid it..it's usually what draws me in there).

Red Neck Man
McGinty's, where Frankensteins used to be, is pretty expensive.Fixed
ickle fairy
Fixed Really? I was in there last weekend and thought it was pretty reasonable. Quite big portions too.
Chris
Yeah I thought it was good value as well. 8 for a beef pie that resulted in a plate FULL of beef, rather than the massive bit of pastry hiding a few small lumps of meat that I usually expect in a pub.Ok, it's expensive if you're used to eating in those shit pubs that have "classics" for 2.99. But the quality is far better.I'd much rather pay what food is worth and get a decent meal than get a bargain that's fucking rank.

It's not exactly fine dining, it's just burgers and grill etc, but it's darn tasty and they fill the plate. I ended up at the globe on saturday btw. Got a great meal and pretty cheap. Teabags
Northern Bar on George Street does awesome food. And most of the rowdy sports watchers stay in the bar, so eating in the lounge isn't bad.
