I know that feeling. Been playing in a band again recently myself. Definitely Ace-ic

Having a right loud jam is great, especially after so long of not doing it.

Didn't take long for the usual band difficulties to set in. We've had 5 jams, and already had 2 different bass players in that time, and back to having no bass player. Fuuuu.

Amazon.

Those guys are crazy.

Bought an Mp3 player in January after my iPod died. It is great, but in the last 2 weeks, the input jack has become really crackly at the slightest touch. Playback goes all distorted or cuts out completely with every step when I'm walking. It's probably a super quick fix, but I wouldn't know how. After a blow with a can of compressed air, and a poke around with a paper clip, that's my know-how at its maximum.

It's still in the 12 month warranty, so I asked how I go about getting it repaired by e-mail. Within 20 minutes, they sent me a confirmation that a brand new one is about to be sent to me today.

Lunatics.

I honestly can't remember the last time I bought anything anywhere other than Amazon. Especially now that same day delivery is an option! Absolutely astounding.

I think I'm too far in to the countryside to get same day delivery. And far too south. The Amazon warehouse for the UK is in Fife, isn't it?

Their couriers are still garbage though. I have to get stuff sent to an Amazon Locker, or it just doesn't arrive.

I'm in the southside of Poland now so it's a pretty new thing to me but yeah I think it's just north of Glasgow. Though I had assumed there'd be one further south as well?

The depot is in Dunfermline - it;s the big huge warehouse with Amazon written on it that you drive past just before the Forth Road Bridge...

You mistyped 2002.

The Red Album wasn't awful. As it went, they played a decent selection of stuff from their whole career, which would have been great if they hadn't made so many shit albums.

Glad I saw them in 2003, so the only bad song they could have played was Hash Pipe, and they did play it. The rest was all bangers.

A band I've always wanted to see, and who played the main stage of the Leeds Festival once when I was there and so blackout drunk I can't remember if I saw them or not. See also Beck and The White Stripes.

That's where I saw them, Leeds 2003. If that's when you missed them, you missed the GOAT setlist.

The whole weekend is a massive drunken blur, but the Saturday is a complete goner, the only band from that I remember going to see is Feeder, and I got KB'd because the tent was full. A productive day. Festivals were wasted on me at that age, I didn't really explore new music much, I just listened to old grunge and metal and I'd just sit at the main stage all day getting shitfaced. Then 10 years later you're going through the old line ups and being like fucks sake, Elliott Smith played while I was eating chips at the fairground because Slipknot were on the main stage and I didn't want to watch them.

I went to either Reading or Leeds for four years in a row, that was the last one. Not a great line up tbh.

That's the one. 2002! Damn, I was sure it was 03.

I was only there for the Saturday. My girlfriend at the time somehow convinced me to go for the day on Saturday, because she wanted to see New Found Glory (and only New Found Glory, nobody else), yet a whole bunch of my favourite bands were on the Sunday; Less Than Jake, No Use for a Name, Get Up Kids, Sick of it All, Pretty Girls Make Graves, Rival Schools, Midtown, A, Bouncing Souls, Jimmy Eat World were all bands I was pretty mad about when I was 15.

How did she wrangle that? Look at that Saturday line up. It's fucking awful. I barely saw anybody. I saw Finch, and they're still among the worst bands I've ever seen. Started watching Fenix TX who were the only other band on the bill I was vaguely interested in besides Weezer, but the missus immediately developed a 'headache' as soon as they started, which magically vanished as soon as they'd finished, that bitch. I saw Guided By Voices, though 15 year old me didn't like them, because he was an idiot. Then New Found Glory, obvs, can't stand them. Then shoved my way right to the front for Weezer, which took pretty much the whole of The White Stripes' set. The day was over for me by about 7pm. Wandered about for ages, hovered towards tents, everything sounded rubbish, went back for The Strokes who were so, so dull. Shit day. Waste of money.

New Found Glory toured the UK in December of that year. Fuck girls, man.

The only bands I remember watching are NoFX, Offspring, Prodigy and GnR on the Friday, (IIRC Reel Big Fish cancelled that year), nothing on the Saturday and Less Than Jake, maybe Andrew WK and then Foo Fighters on the Sunday. I went to the comedy stage a few times but generally I spent all weekend just drinking, walking around and being a fanny. What a waste!

In fairness when you're at the same festival as Andrew WK you really have to party hard.

I'm weeping because they're below The Vines and New Found Glory on the bill.

I was also there in 2002, that was my first full weekender though I'd been in 2001 for the Saturday to see Green Day. Only Green Day. Any other decent bands on show that day were a happy accident.

I saw everyone except nofx and Prodigy on the Friday main stage. I think I missed nofx to see Hell Is For Heroes and popped over to see Alpinestars and The Music while Prodigy were on/while Guns 'n' Roses were hanging around not going on.

Saturday's line-up was very much Not For Me. I spent a lot of time milling around the comedy tent that day. I remember it pissing down while The Soundtrack Of Our Lives were on so I went for shelter to watch This Girl, who were better than the bigger band. Obviously saw Weezer, I'm not an idiot. Full Beard Rivers was good. I definitely saw Fenix TX and The Electric Soft Parade too, I was young enough at the time to be impressed with the members of the latter band changing instruments between songs. The Polyphonic Spree barely fit on the Carling Tent's stage and played that one song I knew so that was fine.

Sunday I was camped out at the main stage from Andrew WK onwards. It was "good". Then were those riots in the campsite with people burning up the toilet blocks and blowing up a generator so my pals and I retreated to the safety of the nearby Sainsbury's car park and waited for our ride home.

Cool Story Ends.

Ooh yeah that was the year of the full on rioting wasn't it. I remember the toilets being set on fire both years I was there (2001 and 2002), but it got really out of hand that year. All the lights and security towers toppled, food vans etc and everything that could be set on fire being set on fire. I remember wandering up a path on the last night going into the trees for a piss and getting shoved out of the way from behind, turning round to call someone a cunt and coming face to face with a bunch of full on riot police with shields and batons. I stayed away from all the rioting but I could see and hear it, everything silhouetted by flames, I did not sleep well that night.

01 was a great line up. I remember a lot more of that. Of course now I see all these bands I love now that I'd never heard of back then that I can't believe I didn't see when I had the chance. I took it in to my head that weekend that I hated the Manics and I went to see Rocket From The Crypt as my last band of the weekend instead. I went in the pit during Rancid and got the shit beat out of me. Great times.

I think i watched the entire main stage on the Saturday, although I don't remember seeing Run DMC. It would seem odd of me to go for food or whatever during them since I like them. I remember being annoyed because I was waiting for Iggy Pop and they bumped the fucking Strokes up to the main stage and I had to sit through them. I must have wandered off on the Sunday because I watched quite a lot of the punk bands on the concrete jungle stage.

Edit: oh look @kirsten, Guided By Voices were there two years in a row.
