offramp
interesting music promotions presentESSIE JAIN + TINY BIKE + JULIE ANNE MCCAMBRIDGESunday 8th February 2009The Tunnels, Carnegies Brae, Aberdeen, AB10 1BF. Phone (01224) 211121Doors 8pm | Entry 6 on doorESSIE JAINEssie Jain was born and raised in London, England, thus making her very British. She is now based out of New York City. Her music is gentle, warm, open and intimate. Her second CD The Inbetween (Leaf) was released in November to widespread acclaim, and these shows will be her first in the UK since then. The album expands the horizons of her debut We Made This Ourselves also on Leaf with a broad spectrum of instrumentation and collaborators to embellish her stunning voice.http://www.myspace.com/essiejainPress for Second Album The Inbetween"Essie Jain is a delight... Definitely a must-get album... Highly recommended" **** Sunday Telegraph (Top 10 Pop CDs of 2008)"Lush instrumentation ranges from neo-classical to brass-heavy and takes in the odd bierkeller stomp on an intimate delight of an album that sits somewhere between P.J. Harveys White Chalk and Madelain Peyrouxs Careless Love Mojo"Jain's voice is an amazing instrument" The Word"Her second album, The Inbetween, distances itself from the pack with melodic warmth, some understated arrangements and a pristine voice that soothes away the most stubborn woes" Q"Frequently takes your breath away" **** Time OutNot many artists can produce two albums of such quality in a year these days, therefore what Essie Jain has done here is nothing short of staggering Elegantly produced, it is low key to sheer perfection. More please ***** Subba Cultcha"This record is hypnotic in its melancholic beauty and it richly rewards the ears with each subsequent listen." 9/10 AUTINY BIKETiny Bike are far more happy with things than it might seem. Tiny Bike have a very relaxed attitude towards things. Except Tiny Bike like home grown herbs, not mediterranean herbs watered by kids blood. Tiny Bike are fucking appalled by this planet of sleeping apes. But the music isnt tapping into that side of things, so instead lets say that Tiny Bike, from Aberdeen, Scotland, are a bit like chilled out Welfare Mothers.http://www.myspace.com/tinybikersJULIE ANNE MCCAMBRIDGEThe musical career of Julie Anne McCambridge is quite phenomenal. Her many solo projects to date include an album released in Prague entitled "Vaclav, I married him", a residency at Covent Garden's infamous Cafe Baroque, and, more recently, the recording of her 'Stars and Mud' album, which has already had advance orders in excess of three copies from Tesco.net.http://www.myspace.com/julieannemccambridge
offramp
some more details about TINY BIKETiny Bike are a slowcore acoustic outfit out of Aberdeen, Scotland, consisting variously of Kevin Allan (vocals, guitar, feet), Kathryn Sawers (piano, vocals, hands), Pete McConville (resonator, banjo, accordion) and John Hekert (departed). Kevin Allan is the son of George Allan, who is not the founder of Universal Audio and not widely considered to be the father of modern music recording. He did not found both Universal Recordings and United Western Recorders. Kevin was a former guitarist and frontman for Welfare Mothers before starting Tiny Bike, and currently has a side project called CEMLAB. The debut self-titled album is not due to be re-released anytime soon on any label. Kathryn Sawers principally plays solo as herself, and likewise Pete McConville as Lazy Sheepdog.
