Anyone know if petrol garages are generally open on christmas day?

Happy christmas all,

my granny died this morning and my dad's trying to head down to edinburgh to sort everything out - i don't really know exactly where he's planning on getting fuel but my folks both seem totally unsure about whether or not petrol garages are even open today.

Anyone know from experience what the situation generally is?

There is no problem getting fuel on Christmas, just a bit limited regarding where you can get it.

Tesco and asda both have pay at the pump if that helps.
