TR!ΔNGL€ T€€TH
E-cig's getting banned offshore. What is the reasoning? I know some(?) chargers have been banned. I am guessing this is down to idiots spoiling it for everyone else.
James Broonbreed
Some safety adviser on the Alwyn ruined it for everyone. Seemingly, In May, the IATA banned button operated E-cigs on flights. Our bond then started stocking E-cigs and liquids so that people wouldn't need to take theirs on flights. Some safety cunt is now saying since they're banned on flights, Total has to follow suit by completely banning them the same way lighters are not allowed offshore. It's all a load of bollocks. Let's all get back on the tabs!

ca_gere
Pet Hate - comedy songs. just because a lyric is a punchline, doesn't mean it shouldn't be good. Likewise, just because a joke is sung doesn't mean it shouldn't be funny. I feel with musical comedy you get the worst of both worlds - a compromise on the jokes and the music. There are a few clever musical comedians like Bill Bailey and Tim Minchin who write good songs that are funny, but the majority of musical comedy consists of shoehorning bad jokes into awkwardly phrased couplets. I'm thinking this kind of thing: Don't get me started on Mitch Benn of Radio 4 comedy podcast fame - he's the fucking worst
Soda Jerk
Good pet hate. Comedy songs are the worst 99% of the time. There's no middleground either. It's either good, or totally horrible. Flight of the Conchords is about as much as I can put up with. They Might Be Giants are good at it too, but they are just great lyricists in general, whether it's funny or not. Comedy parodies of existing songs are nearly always the worst offenders. Mr Owl PhD
Artists who specialise in funny songs are mostly okay e.g. Half Man Half Biscuit. The problem is when you get regular comedians trying to do songs or regular musicians trying to be funny. In 'Ironic' you're getting both of those together, which is probably why it's so utterly terrible. Plus it's an awful song in the first place. ca_gere
The concept of being funny while singing i'm 100% okay with - and there are plenty examples of it done right. It's more the lowering of standards I have an issue with. inserting social media references into a song just isn't funny enough to warrant being dragged out for 3 minutes. People/morons lap it up though. 'He rhymed snaphcat with cat.... HAHAHAHA...can't even... i'm dying' The un-natural-pronunciation-to-fit-the-punchline is the worst offender in this pet hate though. This guy's a king at it:
ca_gere
Weird Al Yankovic is a load of shite. I hear he puts on a great show and he seems like a good guy IRL so that's worth something but his music is fucking lame and always has been. Stroopy121
Bo Burnham writes decent funny songs. I fucking love Bo, I think he falls into the same category as Bailey and Minchin, where he has really interesting stuff to say (though a lot of his stuff is just silly too) but he also writes really great lyrics and is a really solid musician too. xx

Lemonade
The joke wears thin on comedy music pretty quickly but a funny lyric when used smartly and sparingly can be a thing of beauty. Like Randy Newman, They Might Be Giants, Ben Folds. Never NoFX. Edited November 13, 2015 by Lemonade
Lemonade
I've been on a lot of flights lately so most of my pet hates are aeroplane related. I'll do a few when I get home. Sitting in the airport now watching about 100 people queuing for a gate that's not open yet. That's one of them.

Paranoid Android
I appreciate the general hate for comedy music but there is absolutely no way Tim Fucking Minchin should be seen as an exception. Awful shite. Most of the lyricists I like have an element of humour to them and pull it off much better than those people who make it their whole thing.
ca_gere
Tim Minchin might not be everyone's cup of tea - can't say I'm a fan either - but his stuff is still in a different league to most comedy music in that it's not completely half-assed. Numbingly boring and unfunny for the most part but well constructed.
