Left handed junkies stole my iPod.

And I'm not happy about it.

Rather stupidly left my iPod in my car when I parked it up on Saturday night - it was sitting in the little storage bit uder the stereo. Went out on Sunday to find the passenger window smashed and the iPod gone. Also some damage to the upright of the window frame where they've swung something at it to break the glass and it's damaged the frame. Cue a nice christmas present of a bill for a new window, a bill to the get the damage to the window frame repaired, and a bill for a new ipod.

I never leave it in the car either, it always comes in with me but I had bags full of shopping and I think I picked them up and my brain checked off the "pick stuff up" part of my car exiting checklist and I forgot about the iPod. Big price to pay for a moment's absent-mindedness. Bah.

So anyway, don't leave valuable stuff lying in your car, it's like the exact thing you're not meant to do.

Last year (or maybe beginning of this year, I forget), I left a broken washing machine in the back of my car. The thought did go through my head, that you shouldn't leave stuff out in your car, but thought, it's a fucking washing machine, nobody's going to nick that.

Well when I went back to my car a couple of days later, my lock had been bust open and the washing machine gone. I hope the cunts got sore arms carrying the useless, worthless piece of junk. Bastards.

Got the lock fixed etc, then a couple of weeks later, got a phone call at work from the police saying my window had been smashed on my car. They hadn't nicked anything cos there was nothing to nick, but I think they were probably planning nicking the car, but the alarm scared them off.

That incident was pretty much what convinced me to move back out to the country.

Bastards - it pisses me off - you should be able to leave anything in your car with the bloody door open (wide open if you feel like it) and people should just not even contemplate nicking or damaging your property. I know that's never going to happen, but people should just be fucking honest and not do it.

Ha, almost worth it to imagine the look on their faces when they work out the fucking washing machine was broken.

Touch wood I've been relatively lucky for the last ten years, although I did get stereos nicked twice when I was a student. On the first occassion I was in a fucking funeral! The sick bastards would have known that once I was in the funeral would be on for at least half an hour. Embarassingly my car had syringes lying all over it - the coppers asked if the thieves had left them but I had to own up and admit that I am a (messy) diabetic.

Second time was near Aberdeen uni, my own fault for being lazy and not removing the front panel I suppose. More annoying was the fact that the stole a 100 piece socket set that my dad had given me for Christmas that was in the boot.

Fortunately in both cases they broke into a MKII Ford Fiesta which was so easy to get into with a coat hanger that they didn't do any damage to it. Very considerate of them.

The fuckers.

Where about were you parked?

I realised I left my car unlocked outside my house for two days this week but amazingly nothing was gone, depsite the fact that there were a pile of Dire Straits and Mark Knopfler CDs in it.

I was parked on Devanha Terrace, just off South Crown Street. My iPod has pobably been flogged for 20 in the Ferryhill Tavern, or else there's some ned walking through the streets listening to Melt Banana and Bikini Kill.

The car they broke into was my old Escort, which is also easy to break into. They did damage the lock, but not too badly. The smashed window was fucking annoying though.

I was "lucky" for about 6 and half / 7 years, parking on Merkland Road with nothing but a couple of kicked wing mirrors, but then, bang twice in a week or two. Bastards.

I now own a nicer, newer Mondeo, which if anyone broke into I'd be seriously pissed off. It annoyed me out of principle, but I really didn't give that much of a fuck about my car as it was a bit of an old cheap banger, and I was actually slightly glad someone had disposed of my washing machine for free

I just bought my car in May, brand new off the forecourt, so it's particularly annoying when some cunt smashes it and damages the bodywork. I once had a VW Polo that was about 15 years old, that got broken into, I just got a new window from the scrappie and fitted it myself  Why the fuck anyone thought that someone who drove a rusty, dented 15 year old car would have anything valuable is beyond me!

You can claim off your windscreen cover on your insurance for a broken window, usually with no hassle regarding NCB or premiums.

Or have a look down the scrappy.

Mine was the drivers' car window. Again, I re-iterate - BASTARDS.

+1

If you're fully comp then you should be covered for this, maybe a wee excess (I think my glass excess is 50). Oh and I feel your pain - been there, done that:

Should usually still be covered.

Ach well - it was months and months ago, and the window was replaced without claiming - didn't realise it wouldn't mess up my no claims.

Saying that - I wasn't fully comp at the time, so probably couldn't have claimed anyway.

They're still bastards.

Anyone had their flat broken into? Ours got done a couple months ag. Took the Wii, all the games, cash, wallets etc. But the worst thing was looking at the door and the sheer amount of force and violence it must have take the to smash the door frame in.

Yeah, about 10 years ago when I lived on Castlehill (beside the harbour), came home to find the door kicked in, (the door frame was absolutely reduced to splinters, and had a console, a guitar and a bunch of other odds and ends stolen. Never felt safe in their after that, though honestly never felt that safe in there to begin with as twice we had to chuck out total randoms who just walked in off the street , up two flights of stairs and into our living room. The lock on the front door didn't work and we didn't lock the flat door when we were in. I was asleep one night and woke up to the sound of someone walking around the living room talking to himself. Another time there was a guy sitting watching our TV.

I heard a horrible horrible story once....

I don't know this person, but it was someone who worked where I used to work, but before I worked there - get me? Anyway, doesn't matter.

Young female - early twenties I think, returned home to her flat on the Hardgate one night after work, and found a guy in her flat. I can't remember the exact ins and outs of it, but she ran like fuck out of there and called the police. They somehow found him/caught him, like I say, can't remember the exact details, but they got him anyway. He had all sorts of crazy shit on him, ready to tie her up and do fuck knows to her, I think he had a knife and other "implements". What had happened was he'd got into her loft from the outside, and simply jumped into her flat, and was going to (probably) torture and kill her.

That story creeps the fuck out of me.

I'm sure I've heard various versions of that story before...an urban legend I think.

Yeah, but I'm rehabilitated now and I promise not to do it again, as long as I keep taking my tablets.

Right - I knew folk were going to think it's bullshit, but it is a true story.

The woman who told me the story knew the girl first hand, as she used to work in their department. It was the legal department of big company in Aberdeen. It was whilst I was at uni, during my law degree, the woman who told me the story is in her 30's, married with a kid, and there were others sort of nodding along, affirming the story as it were - other females (lawyers, admin staff, secretaries etc), who all knew the girl involved. She moved out of her flat straight away, and never went back.

I know how it sounds, but it's really not the type of people who would spin bullshit stories like that. Yes it also sounds like I was young and impressionable (as a student), but I was probably about 23 when I heard the story, so it wasn't like they were taking the piss out of the work experience kid or anything.

I heard it when I was a student in Glasgow though...

I also heard one about a girl who got in a 'taxi', only for it to get pulled over by the police and the the driver arrested. In his boot was torture implements, rope, masking tape etc etc.

Eeerily similar.

Oh and the one about the girl who goes to the doctor with a rash only to be told that it's caught from a bacteria you can only get from intimate contact with a dead body...and her boyfriend works in the MORGUE!

Yeah yeah. I'm still convinced this one is real though. It was about a real person, with a real name, and a real flat that the woman telling me the story had previously been in and all that sort of stuff.

Better still, when some broke into my old work - which must have involved a kid as the initial access was via a very small rooflight, they went to great lengths to get the safe out of the building's strongroom, up a grass bank - where footprints were sunk several inches into the ground from carrying it & away in a truck.

After all that effort, they must have been truly pissed-off to find that it contained nothing more exciting than duplicate order forms & the front office's spare tea & coffee when they eventually opened it. From the state of the safe when they finally found it, the police surmised that they must have taken a long time to get inside! :D

Laugh-is that in order to get the bloody thing out of the strongroom, they moved a little unassuming plan metal box/cabinet out of the way & that was where all the cash was kept at night! :D

I've heard various versions of that story over the years & I heard another one about a "handbag theft" in John Lewis from my neighbour yesterday that has all the hallmarks of a UL.

I can think of one genuine incident here involving a former colleague of mine who was arrested for "importuning" with all sorts of "fetish gear" in the back of his car. What actually happened was that he was aproached on the street, declined an offer & drove-off.

The cop who then stopped & nicked him was behaving like christmas had come but the station seargant became concerned when it emerged that he was nicked outside a diving shop & that all the "fetish gear" turned out to be diving gear & he had certification etc, along with a newly filled pair of tanks, recipt etc. It was about then that the seargeant decided to phone us.

Charges were not pressed! :D
