Needing a bit of local advice...

I'm looking to buy some flights with the Dons badge on them, as a stocking filler for my Dad's xmas. I've noticed them on ebay, but they are only available in packs of 15, whereas i'm just looking for 3-6. The address of the seller gives a sports shop just off of King St (Jasmine Terrace?); i've had a look but can't find it.

  • Does this place exist?
  • Are there any wee specialist sports shops in Aberdeen which would sell them?

Enjoying the World Masters today

I think i'm falling in love with the women's world number 1 :love::love:

Many thanks. I do have hazy memories of there being a wee sports shop selling cricket gear and bowls, from when I lived on King St in 2001; but can't for the life of me remember the exact place area of King St it is.

Had a quick drive past earlier in the week and couldn't see it. Think i'll phone them tomorrow for directions.

  • 4 weeks later...

Anyone else watching the PDC championships just now? Some absolutely incredible matches (Barney v. Baxter, Nicholson v. Priestly), and the upcoming ones tonight are looking pretty tasty!

Wade v. Nicholson - Wade has been awful so far, but still won through to the QF. Nicholson has been really steady, producing a quality 3 dart average and strong doubles.

Barneveld v. Klaasen - Barney has shown both sides of his form, breathtaking one match and garbage the next. Klaasen has been strangely consistent and deadly on the doubles.

Too hard to predict the winners, so i'm just going to sit back and enjoy the matches without any bets.

That Barney vs. Baxter match was awesome.

I love Sid Widell. When that Russian girl was playing, the stuff he was coming out with was hilarious - "LEVELSTROIKA!!!?!?" and a heap of Emily Pankhurst references, "eat your heart out" etc. :)

James Wade is far too cocky.

Why has darts suddenly become a darling sport of the abstract-music elite (i find it funny that it's the same old same-olds that are interested in it)? It's fat people chucking a pointy object at a board for gods sake! While there is undoubtedly an element of skill involved in it and it does make for a slightly amusing game whilst drinking i personally don't see the appeal. Maybe it's just that it's not a majorly popular "sport" and the attraction lies with it being alternative. Anyone fancy shedding some light? What next? Tiddlywinks? Marbles? Weight-lifting?

Has Taylor not won his last 2 games 5-0 and 4-0?

Painter got a set off him in a 4-1 loss.

Taylor was awesome last night, in a match where I thought he'd be pushed all the way. Hopefully this isn't a sign of what is to come in the next 2 rounds. I despise King, who he has in the semi, so couldn't care less about that match. But i'd love for him to get beat in the final, much like the epic match he had with Barneveld a few years ago

Darts is the second most watched sport on Sky, behind football.

Really? I find that quite hard to believe. More watched than cricket and boxing (i know that boxing has mostly switched to ITV now but still)? Got any figures to support that? I'm genuinely interested as the people who go on about darts on here seem to have latched onto it within the last year and Darts has never been a popular sport throughout most of my life, in fact it is usually something that gets derided as not actually being worthy of being called a sport.

First match of the 'fatties' is underway...

Decided to back Nicholson since he's the underdog, getting booed by the crowd for not being English (despite being from Newcastle!) and isn't going out with an Aberdonian bint (unlike Wade).

Not bold enough to put money where my mouth is though!

Most of the decent boxing is pay per view, and the England cricket team have been shit for a wee while, so I could believe that. I've been watching the arrows ever since Les Wallace won the BDO wearing a kilt, good times.

Can't wait for tomorrow, even though I couldn't go down for the week.

Agreed about the boxing, but there is a large amount of Cricket followers who aren't interested in the English national team in the UK.

I just find it hard to believe that such a non-sport typically associated with beer-swilling oafs "playing" it has suddenly become popular. It's strange, that's all. As is the type of person on here who follows it, they all seem to be of the same ilk. It's an interesting clique-type thing.

Sky hyping it up more than ever, image of the game being radically overhauled, PDC events being held in Aberdeen, etc. I personally think that the appeal is you can just pop down to almost any pub and throw away to your heart's content.

Your point about class/clique etc is a pile of farmyard shite, IMO: the fanbase for the game is more broad than you give it credit for.

I'm not looking for "bites", I'm asking a reasonable question. Jesus Christ.

At least Scorge is offering up a bit of insight.

Just wondering why there was the need to further comment on the weight and skill of the players, as you made your feelings clear earlier in the thread on that matter.

Since you are starting to do my nut in and take my attention away from an exciting game, here's my 2 cents:

Darts is just like any sport, in that it requires years of practice, training and hardwork in order for success to be had. For the complete novice, hitting the board is hard enough... these guys can get three darts in a tiny piece of board from almost 8 feet away, and do it regularly. That deserves a lot more respect than you are givining it.

The reason darts has become increasingly popular is because more events are televised and greater prize money/sponsorship/news coverage has built it up.

Sky have been affa canny with their new tournament formats as well, making games shorter and more exciting; as well as introducing great commentators/eye candy/walk on music/sing a longs into the adverts etc etc. Much like how Sky have marketed the once 'boring' Ryder cup in golf, into an exciting 'battle' of the continents.

If it doesn't float your boat, don't watch it, don't moan about it. Simple as that.
