Soda Jerk
First gig I've been to in an absolute age, and my first in Aberdeen, so I thought I might as well spout a load of rubbish about what I thought of it.----------------------------I've never been too good with names, especially when I never even researched what these people's names were to begin with, so I might throw in descriptions based on haircuts, t-shirts or tones of voices. I should also add that this was one venture to Moshulu where I didn't leave behind a trail of shoes and socks that were stuck to the floor. You remember that scene in Home Alone where Marv is climbing the tarred staircase, leaving behind a trail of his layers of footwear? It's right after he gets clobbered in the face with an iron. My favourite line from that film is "Kevin, you're such a disease!"So, after the proverbial weight was thrown around at the door by bouncers and "tour managers" alike, It was time to toe-tap stick-free to Copy Haho who finally commenced introductory banter and instrument tinkering at an extremely unsociable 11:30pm, like some kind of Rap concert. I'd only briefly heard them through Myspace's very own, built-in MP3 shittifier and streaming system, so it was difficult to predict what to expect. The overall output was a strange combination of twangy, jangly guitars over the top of stadium-rock sounding drums carrying a reverberation akin to an Aerosmith live album which echoed through a PA system bigger than my house right through the most unusual of venue layouts. The inoffensively warbled vocals comparable to all that miserable 80's post punk that made teenagers in legwarmers want to kill themselves were cancelled out by the chirpy charismatic guitar pop that pieced the whole thing together. Reminiscent of back combed, un-tucked shirts of the despondent working class of the 1980's northern England pooled together with fashionable unit-shifting Britpop only a decade later, tightly belted out with the gusto of an outfit looking like they are having a moderate and controlled amount of fun. Indie rock that plods along inoffensively with just something indescribable about them which separates them from similar counterparts that have exceptional ability to bore me to a near death.A baffling location for a relatively new band with only a couple of singles and EP's in their repertoire to be headlining, but Danananana took to the barrier-and-bouncer-defended stage in front of a sweat-breaking 40 or so regardless, with more clear-cut free space than Jonathan Ross' work schedule. Even with a bit of jeering from the band, to people stood against the mirrored wall or the bar to come forward and watch the band, they stayed strong. They didn't give way to what this sissy with a microphone had to say. No! Fuck him! They paid their money on the door and they had their own fun. They stood still and talked about which places on Belmont Street ID and which ones don't whilst we were being split into two crowds, and sent across a great divide to hug the person opposite in a sneaky, faux-socialising scheme. Heart warming and joyful major key blasts of noise and beat-downs torn apart by aggro-pop melodies and well you know. You've heard them. Everyone has heard them. Everyone is talking about them. So where was everyone? Or maybe everyone was there but Moshulu was just an oversized hole in the ground that needed filling with the most preposterous, outlandishly offensive location on earth. Cheap drinks though, eh?

Soda Jerk
I bought a pint of fizzy juice and it was less than 2 which was amazing. A regular pub will have me paying just shy of 3 for such a thing.I have no clue about their price of boozes and whatnot.

Teabags
PS. Did you enjoy the gig? It's hard to tell from your review.Thats what I was thinking. It wasn't much of a review. More a collection of funny metaphors and a bit of a rant at the general public.
captain burrito
i didn't realise people had to be down the front in order to enjoy the band?that said, i WAS down the front and it was a reet good show by all accounts. i missed copy haho which i'm gutted about. kinda wish this had been in tunnels. or my front room. Panda Strong
I was a bit confused by the turnout as well. I thought it would be much busier...?Despite the volume down the front was mint! Dancing and barrier slamming ahoy!

RF Scott
Judging by the texts I got from a lot of people on the night, the snow had something to do with turnout.

They're definitely shaping up to be one of Scotland's biggest bands right now.I'm not really sure about attendance. Not a few as the Mae Shi, but there can't of been anymore than 40 or so people. Either way it was nothing like this;

That's what the Aberdeen demographic prefer.I didn't expect a very big crowd on Saturday and I'd be surprised if anyone genuinely did.Plus, it was quite poorly promoted.A similar level of gig is going to be This Town Needs Guns in February. About 50 people will be there (max, Id say) - it should undoubtedly be moved to The Tunnels. But oh well.
Graeme
The Blue Lamp was pretty busy on Saturday and that's with no (or minimal) obvious promotion. Maybe The Blue Lamp punters are okay with the snow though.

About 50 people will be there (max, Id say) - it should undoubtedly be moved to The Tunnels. But oh well.Yah, i didn't see any posters or anything in uni. Hmmm. You're right about TTNG as well. Its pretty bad when you can predict the turnout like this You mean a regional show wasn't as busy as a very successful clubnight show in London?Obviously i'm not directly comparing the two shows but the fact remains that Dana usually pull a bigger crowd - even in Glasgow. Was anyone at the Dundee date? I'd be interested to know the turnout for it.

Was anyone at the Dundee date? I'd be interested to know the turnout for it.Well, they're from Glasgow, and it's three times the size of Aberdeen...Dundee date was slightly busier though not by too much. Though it was 14+, and there was no snow. I've seen Danana play to crowds not much bigger in other places in the UK. People need to remember that Aberdeen is a regional gig, it's something like the 30th biggest city in the UK. 50 for TTNG would probably be quite good, given that there are probably less than 20 people in Aberdeen who have heard of them.
