Guest Hobo
When are the general elections for scotland and the uk?I ask because last week I received a voter registration form, filled it out and sent it back and today I got a letter saying"the annual householders form was recently returned to which your name has been added. Unfortunately, this was received too late for inclusion in the register. You may be added as a supplementary elector, if you wish by completing and returning the enclosed voter registration form. Yours, E.R.O"There was no prepaid envelope in this one though, if I send it in an unstamped envelope will they get it anyway, by way of them paying postage when it arrives? Chris
General election could be any time before May 2010, Scottish Election in 2011. European parliament elections are next year (4 June).

Can they?Unfortunately, this was received too late for inclusion in the register.
Chris
I'm guessing it's not incompetence as such (unless perhaps on your part by not returning the form when they first sent it to you) but more a legislative deadline. Elections take a lot of organisation and I imagine they wanted everyone registered at the correct address before now so they could get stuff ready for euro elections in the first half of next year.Probably contacting the Electoral Roll Officer would get you more information than asking here. Bigsby
Bit strange, they are updated every month now, not just yearly. Anyhoo, it's not just relevant for general/European elections etc, one of your representatives could drop down dead tomorrow and then there would be a by-election. Cloud
Speaking of elections, I have the right to either vote in Scotland, England or in Poland for next year's Euro elections...which do I choose? This bizzare situation arose because although I'm registered to vote in Scotland (as my permanent address is still there), they said that I'd be allowed to transfer to England as I maintain an address there, and yet as I'm residing in Poland, I've got the right to vote in Euro-elections here.Nonsense :/

Poland, as the first step in an attempt to secure permanent residency.

Cloud
Poland, as the first step in an attempt to secure permanent residency. Obtaining temporary residency was hard enough...I don't even want to think what permanent residency involves I've met enough people who can't even get temporary residency as their landlord won't allow them to register as residing in the flat - and so are here illegally. It's supposed to be changing in the new year, but...I swear, on one hand, it's fantastic that civil servants are easily accessible here, but on the other hand, they seem to specialise in the kind of misery that only the Jobcentre in the UK can hope to rival.
