Crass were punk, and they were fucking terrible.

Maybe so in terms of musical ability, which means the square root of fuck all.

In terms of ideals, they were way ahead of their time and still are. I think a lot of what they preached was a load of dull, hippie, right-on garbage, but at least they got people thinking.

I couldn't agree more. I've always tried to like Crass for that reason, but they just didn't have a song in them. Although I disagree with musical ability not being important. Sirely it is the factor which makes people decide whether they like a band or not?

Didn't Steve Ignorant play the whole of Feeding of the 5000 fairly recently, charging 15 for the pleasure? I'm led to believe that caused a bit of bad blood between former members of Crass and Steve...

For some reason, this thread reminded me that the band ANTI-FLAG still exist and that people actually like(d) them.

I've got pretty much the whole back catalogue with a load of live/interview tapes and the "1977 Demos" LP and I thought they had some cracking tunes. Always made me laugh that they had the same drum fill in every song because it's the only one Penny could play! Simplistic music for sure, but it sounds good to me so that's all that matters.

I believe it was 30 that mug punters were being fleeced for at the Feeding of the 5000, really sad to see the genre become a dewy-eyed hark-back for old farts who wanted to relive some youthful rebellion before they settled down and made their peace with the system.

Punk is dead...

Yes. I too want to hear married 30 somethings sing about boobs, poop, and sexing girls.

This is going to be dreadful. The post-hiatus interviews were scathing towards each other. I'm sure they got together and a had a "ah, life's too short dudes" group hug, but they can't just erase how they felt, can they? Besides, the old stuff is dated and the new stuff is 10 years too late. They just aren't worth it.

Not that I'm bothered. I will probably effortlessly avoid any forthcoming Blink 182 activity.

"Hi We're Anti-Flag. This song is about being Anti-Corporation."

"Hi We're Anti-Flag. Yes, we will accept this corporate record deal!"

I'm sorry but i can't accept this argument. Anti Flag formed in 1988 and no one knew who the fuck they were untill a decade later when they got label interest and then went massive.

I just think, if your in a band who has a message (even if you think that message is fake, which it clearly isn't seen as they spent a decade in the underground to no-success selling the same message!) and you want people to hear it, then why not get the most amount of exposure you can.

I mean whats the point of having an ideal that you want other peop[le to know about if their never fucking going to! Right now, whether you like it or not, anti flag are a success. They have spread a message and politicized a large section of people who NEVER would have gotten into politics. They've done what 90% of your 'were never gonna sign to a label, coz labels is the devil and we're too PUNK!" could never do because they don't have the audience to do it.

Anti-flag never hid from the fact that they signed to a major anyway in fact they told everybody. Because they knew that what they wanted to say and they wanted to be heard saying it.

Great!

Can't wait for the new album.

+44 and AVA were impressive and really enjoyed their albums. Hopefully they'll be back to their best when Summer comes.

I quite liked the first AVA album but I thought the second one was totally autopilot.

+44 seemed inoffensive enough.

I'm quite cynical about this reunion but I'm interested in hearing what the new stuff sounds like, I must say.

Guest treader.

For anyone who cares about this, or follows Mark Hoppus on Twitter, you'll know that this is definitely happening.

They are re-forming for a Summer tour and also planning on writing a new album.
