I thought this gig was outstanding!

Not only did i have a photopass

but i got a guest pass too............................

as far as i remember they played the following songs - the order will be dodgy as im going by my memory alone. if anyone can correct me, please do :)

1. Svefn-g-Englar

2. i genuinely don't remember the second track as i was so immersed with my camera, twat that i am.

3. the 3rd track i missed as i had to get escorted out the side door and then i went round to the front and back in to watch the rest of the set

4. Vi Spilum Endalaust

5. Hopppolla

6. Me Blnasir

7. Inn Mr Syngur Vitleysingur

8. Hafsl

9. Festival

10. Sglpur

11. Gobblidigook (with the members from For A Minor Reflection drumming along and the confetti)

Encore:

I can't remember the 1st one...but the second was Popplagi which was unbelievable!

What did everyone think?

You can see my photos here - Flickr: beth ashley alexander's Photostream only 1 up justnow

i missed the strings, brass etc, but only slightly. It was more the songs that involve them that i missed - Ara Batur from the new album, Olsen Olsen from Agaetis Byrjun, Gong from Takk etc

If this review appeared in a proper music magazine it would be amazing. Why did you get escorted out?

Because if your a photographer and you don't have a ticket or some form of other pass to let you in to see the whole gig you don't get back in...apparently. I don't know if thats the deal at Carling Academy only or if its a general thing amongst the bigger venues.

But i showed my guest pass i got right back in 8-)

Was gutted not to get to this. Saw them at Connect and they were by far my highlight highlight of the weekend. Was a relatively similar set though, Gobbledigook is amazing live with all the drums. Truly an amazing and creative band.

Superb photos as well.

They are indeed amazing :)

and thank you

They were great but they were better the other times I've seen them with Amiina playing all the string arrangements. Some weegie bitch next to us decided to play commentator all night which got a bit annoying.

It was indeed very annoying and I probably would have been within my rights to break her nose.

comments such as

"ooh this is the bit where it all comes in..." you don't fucking say...

and

"the singer is faking it, his english isn't that bad"

were particular highlights

That aside, it was immense. :)

I used language which I only reserve for the football to a couple of guys talking loudly about the Scissor Sisters performance at Liveaid, at Sigur Ros's previous gig at Carling Academy. Pricks...

yes there were several retards talkin loudly near me. When i did finally ask that girl to shut the fuck up, her mate had the cheek to defend her....nmumumnmnmnmnmnmbbrbumumnmnmnmnumumumghghgmnmnghmg

I can understand (sometimes) people who talk during support acts. But not through the act that they're supposed to be there seeing!

The venue was very full. I was quite near the back but felt quite claustraphobic. It was uncomfortable. Just as well there wasn't any crowd movement.

As I had never seen them before I can't really comment on there being no strings. I totally enjoyed it and I'll definitely want to see them again.

It WAS overly rammed! I remember at the barrowlands a few years back I got in for 8 and they were selling reduced tickets on the door. I was a bit annoyed that most people only really knew the new songs and Hoppipolla, so talked through the ones the didn't know. But that's just me being a grumpy muso. I'd rather this than have to see them at the SECC which I'm scared is where they'll be forced to play if they ever come back.

That scares me too. It would be a horrible experience. I often think that bands should just play 2 nights or whatever at the same venue rather than resorting to the secc or aecc in Aberdeen's case. But obviously that wouldn't happen re: money etc.

i shudder at the thought.......

i had a seat up on the balcony, which i must say is always the better option for someone who is 5ft 3. Luckily i had no bother from the mongs that you guys talk of. Although there was this one lady, i actually counted - she went to the toilet NINE times, walking past me everytime, meaning i had to stand up to let her fat a** through....

As for Amiina...i did miss them even though i have not seen them perform with Sigur Ros before.

Does anyone know the reason they didn't invite them along for this tour?

With hindsight a balcony seat would've been lovely for Sigur Ros. My legs were aching by the end! But then I wouldn't have been in the midst of the confetti.

The only problem with Carling Academy seating is you have to be early to get a good seat!

The confetti surprisingly reached us balcony lot

When Jonsi asked the seated folk to stand and clap along to Gobblidigook we all hastly had torches shone in our eyes and got told to sit down...
