Quantum Of Solace

Anyone else seen the new Bond yet?

Went along yesterday afternoon: very fine film. Plenty of proper good action sequences, Daniel Craig can act the part properly, and even though you can see some of the twists coming from a mile off, it doesn't hinder your enjoyment of the film.

Get it seen!

I thought it was ok. Didn't blow me away though. Craig was good as Bond again and Judy Dench was fine as M.

It just didn't feel like a Bond film to me when I was watching it. Felt like I was watching Bourne again.

When I pay to see a Bond film I want to at least vaguely feel like the protagonist is him! I think it's good that they got away from the later Brosnan stuff when he had a gadget for everything (I.e. that ridiculous invisible car) and he had too many cheesy one liners. however this doesn't feel like it's Bond at all.

Casino still gave the distinct feeling it was Bond. With the poker playing and showing him becoming a 'double O' agent. This film just didn't feel right too me.

Don't get me wrong though, still a good film. Just not as good as casino and not really a Bond film in my opinion.

Also thought the new Bond girl was rubbish, just looked like she didn't give a fuck. Also the English one that was in it for a while probably would have worked better and imho was nicer looking.

i seen it last night, i thought it was quite good how they didnt drag it out as it was only just over an hour and a half.

Aye that english Bond girl was Tess, in the BBC's recent Tess of the d'Urbervilles

Quality film, the action sequences were epic. I also liked the car chases, and I really hate car chases.

I thought the ending with the flaming building was a bit of a let-down though. The plot was slightly strange too, Dominic Greene's evil plan was briefly touched upon rather than being central to the story.

Daniel Craig is quality.

I want to see it ASAP. Olga Kurylenko is very pretty. I think i have a thing for Eastern European women.

Man, you should go to Romania. Much of my time there was spent gawking.

Film is very good. Not sure if it's better than Casino Royale, but it's well worth seeing if you've not already. I too am happy with this latest direction for the Bond franchise.

I won't say I hated this film, but I was very let down.

I can't believe I'm hearing that most of you liked it!

Denial?

I just thought it was a mess of a film. I was quite impressed with Casino Royale, but this wasn't anything similar.

I have been arguing most of the week (I am a massive Bond fan) that the Bourne comparisons are weak, but after sitting through the first shaky cam ridden hour of the film, I can argue no more.

The worst thing is the action sequences don't convey any action!

I can actually see how Bourne kills someone, whereas half of the time Bond is obscured by a fast panning shot, multi-edited to make sure I don't know what the hell is going on.

Simply weak, but I still love Daniel - he just didn't have anything to work with this time.

5.5/10 for me.

oh its so true.... it skinned me the best part of 6 quid!

seriously though i hold it in a slightly higher opinion than you, i enjoyed it more than Casino Royale, but i am not a huge fan of the modern Bond films, i just feel like nowadays Bond doesn't have to think for himself, he may as well be a robot, and i think that was a large factor in the original sucess. i mean what happened to having a trusty knife that comes out the end of your shoe? or even a constantly changing registration plate?

i think it is definitely worth a watch though. if you don't want to part with the cash, wait and rent it.

I laughed. What's going on with his mouth? :D

I don't give a damn. Whatever it is, it's hot. He's hot on a whole. The first truly hot Bond imho.

Going to see it next week. Does anyone know if they're still showing this on the premier screen at cinehell?

Quantum of Shite.

Where the fuck was Q?

He wasn't in Casino Royale either. I don't know if they were planning on reintroducing him in future films but they may have fucked the franchise with this terrible film they just made.:swearing:

I thought this was rotten, a massive disappointment. :(

Out of interest, when did vue introduce watching folk with binoculars for the first twenty minutes of films? I take it it's to cut down on "knock-off nigels", etc?

Had its good and bad bits.

The story was fairly decent, but jumped around a lot.

The action scenes should have been amazing, but were so poorly edited that it was just disorientating.

Both bond girls were smoking, but never really got a proper entrance or scene.

The baddies were so shit it was unreal, the main guy was just a corrupt businessman and bent politicians are a fact of life.

No gadgets, except a shitty super-computer in M's bathroom!

Overall it could (and should) have been brilliant but you get the feeling they're trying to make it too realistic, especially with the lack of gadgets, cars, EVIL villains, and bikini-clad wifeys everywhere. The writer's seem to have forgotten than this is what made bond great.
