Brilliant albums from overseas

I'm looking to find a heap of new, good, albums from bands that are pretty big or successful overseas (or just in their home nation) but have little, or no fame in the UK / US.

Porno Graffitti - Romantist Egoist. Some funky J-rock with loads of cool riffs. Take their name from the Extreme Album Pornograffitti.

L'Arc-en-Ciel - Smile / Real. More pretty staple J-rock but very well produced and epic.

Oomph! - Delikatessen. Compilation album from a band that sound like, but actually pre-date Rammstein.

Any such help would be dandy.

Cheers.

I second Nouvelle Vague.

I'd also throw in The Grates MySpace.com - The Grates - AU - Indie / Tropical / Showtunes - www.myspace.com/thegrates

Fair bit of success in their native Australia but not very well known here. Kind of like a chirpier Yeah, Yeah Yeahs. Their debut Gravity 'Wont Get You High' was easily one of the best Indie Pop albums of '06, I'm yet to buy the newest one but what I've heard has been great.

Some bands whom I really like and are well known on their own turf and further afield but pretty much unknown here (outside specific small fanbase & knowledgable muso folks) :

Eluveitie - Switzerland

Tystnaden - Italy

Tyr - Faroe Islands

Wolf - Sweden

Delain - Netherlands

Cloudscape - Sweden

Exilia - Italy

Reanimator - Canada (not the old British thrash band Re-Animator)

Gojira - France (though starting to make inroads in the UK and USA)

Beautiful Sin - Belgium/Norway

Mandragora Scream - Italy

Gama Bomb - Ireland

As probably expected they are all various flavours of metal covering folk/goth/thrash/death/operatic styles.

Out of the ones mentioned... I've seen Donots support Millencolin many years ago, I own 2 Reguritator albums and a "I sucked a lot of cock to get where I am" vinyl single from them (all bought when I was mega influenced by P.U.S.A) and have seen dEUS play a good 5 or 6 times at festivals and support slots.

I'd like to add Kiwi instrumentalists 'Jakob' to the list. Post rock by numbers, but some cracking songs.

Diorama by Silverchair is the best album I've ever heard. Biggest band in Australia but no one knows them here.

And they're shit anyway.

I recommend the Starlight Mints first album (Dream that Stuff was Made of), Tripping Daisy - Jesus Hits like the Atom Bomb and "The Dirty South" by Drive-by Truckers.
