An open letter to the staff of the Belmont Picture House

Come to Cineworld instead, we're proper cunts and we don't even show good films.

I had an allergic reaction to your popcorn when I took the kid to see "Iron Man". My lips swelled up and my throat started to constrict.

Ah wiz fair panicked, so ah wiz!

You're very lucky I didn't sue the arse off you....for....popcorn negligence....or something....

Naw, haud oan....that was Vue.

Cineworld - I had to make a dash for the cludgie during "Constatine" and was so violently sick (dodgy kebab earlier) that I did a Bon Scott/Hendrix. Fortunately, a very nice African chap who was cleaning the toilet at the time came to my aid pretty much saved my bacon.

...so you cunts are allright

I go to the Belmont because it shows cinema that others in Aberdeen don't. Even with this i'm considering never going back. I went to a film last week and the way in which the staff member conducted himself was just unacceptable. I didn't pay 4 to be spoken to like i'd slapped his mother around the chops. And i can guarantee you, absolutely guarantee, that if i wasn't a hoodie wearing teenager he wouldn't have spoken to me like he had. It's just too much hassle and i can't be arsed with it anymore. I know others that think the same.

The staff member in question has always been this way, so no, i won't be cutting him any slack.

As for 1UP; i find most (as in not all!) of the staff quite unfriendly. Maybe i expect too much from record shops, but i actually enjoy shopping in Mono in Glasgow or Piccadilly in Manchester, where as with 1UP it's the complete opposite

Agreed, the box office has long cues at start times, slow as fuck & one person selling tickets via someone who seems to be on a go slow......

As far as the twat that sells munchies, his mobile phone should be removed.

A very poor front of house service compared to Edinburgh specialist film houses

However, downstairs Cafe staff are exempted from my criticism

Have you complained to the management about this? Sounds to me like something they need to be made aware of so they can fix it. If people are really being put off by this guy then it seems a shame that what seems to be a great cinema is potentially being put at risk because of this, and because no-one actually told the people that can do something about it.

People don't complain enough.

Not sure what your problem is. As a member of staff at the Belmont I'm fairly offended by your comments, and am really not sure who you're talking about. What do they look like? Is it me? If so, then say and we can have a square go  Generally we are a cheery bunch with a good rapport with customers, and pride ourselves on good manners. As long as you treat us like human beings you will receive the same treatment yourself. If, on the other hand, you treat us like service mechanoids and don't say please or thank you then you can expect a similar response from us...

All I know is that we have a large bunch of satisfied customers, and when we were recently closed for a week so many people came in afterwards and said that they had missed us and that the other cinemas they had to visit during our closure are all shite.

absolutly right, there is a world of difference between moaning and making a complaint.

of course you would be, defence is always the first response to criticism.

I found Sharon's comment to be a bit of a shame, - that you have to know, or be friends with the staff before they treat you like a "respectable customer"...(i.e. be friendly back.)...and as for saying "it's up the the customers to be friendly, to get friendly responses, surely that's not right? - It's up to the employee to be as friendly and welcoming to anyone - no matter how they are! (not nice, I know - but, it's onto a downward spiral if you are expecting your clients to be happy, before you are!)...

After working in One UP ofr a long time (in the early 90's)...I'd happily plumped with the phrase: "The customer is always shite" - but you still had to smile, and be nice. (Otherwise they'd shop elsewhere)....but, I guess because the Belmont shows films that other Aberdeen cinemas don't, I guess you might think that gives you the right to treat your customers as you see fit - otherwise, they have got no where else to go?...

My Advice? - get out of retail / public facing work if you don't like dealing with Joe Public.
