Loads of great soul stuff came out of detroit apart from motown labels like THELMA, KAREN, WHEELSVILLE, SOLID HIT, PREMIUM STUFF, I've been unto soul music for years now and I'm still hearing stuff I've never heard before so get digging and enjoy the best music in the world. hamstir
With Motown it's all about the singles, screw the albums (even What's Going On)But Songs In The Key Of Life is the greatest motown album ever. If your into soulful stuff get Curtis Live by Curtis Mayfield or The Temptations Masterpiece both are classics
Stupot
All great stuff. But where's stripey saying it's all shite and derivative and done on poor equipment and the metalheads/punks saying it doesn't sound like what they play ergo not worth listening too? FatHand
This is a new surreal world we live in. This thread is just a bunch of people who like soul and nothing to do with getting into a debate on if it is a valid form of musical expression blah blah. Thank fuckI just tried last.fm playing similar artists to Otis and it's a good shout. Give it a try and pay attention to the names as they come up. soulboy
There's an Alice Clark number by the same name. It's a personal favourite of mine. Is it the same song?Yes it is the same song it was published by jobete which was motowns publishing company so would guess Kim Weston is the original version. I have the alice clark 45 on US warner brothers. the marvin gaye tune when I feel the need was recorded by Nick ashford on verve and since the marvin version was unissued it begs the question how did other record labels here the tunes in the first place. Alan Cynic
Seeing as Ann Peebles (rightly!) got a mention earlier, I thought I'd mention that other great Hi records artist, Al Green........"Simply beautiful' gets the old Cynical legs buckling!!!!
