Batman - The Dark Knight

2000AD as a comic is a world apart from the way violence is depicted in this film - I hesitate to say "realistically depicted" because in the film, it isn't, it's sanitised violence that reduces murder to a casual inconsequential act.

Anyway compared to DC comics timid, patriotic, feelgood vigilante glorifying cheesy boring cliched american rubbish, 2000AD always was a darker and more subversive alternative, almost a polar opposite.

that's kind of a contradiction there. you defend reading 2000ad as being different from the way dark night depicts violence yet go on to say it's darker and more subversive. so you're saying reading 2000ad will influence kids behaviour in a dark way right? :)

i really don't think we're going to have a spate of kids shoving their classmates heads into pencils because of the dark night. in the same way that you didn't wander the streets saying "i am the law" and dispensing justice after reading 2000ad. it may have been a comic but 2000ad regularly portrayed some pretty graphic violence and extreme behaviour.

the thing about 2000ad is you aren't meant to identify with characters like judge dredd, if anything it takes the piss out of batman and his unilateral form of justice.

heh, that's a fair point but it's still pretty rich for you to have a go at people for letting their kids watch a film based on a comic book when you were a regular reader of a comic filled with more graphic violence and sexiness than any mainstream american comic(pisstake or not).

What's wrong with watching a film stickied in the top right hand 1/4 of the screen while you're working? How is that any different from listening to music in the background while you work, or while you're walking down the street with your ipod?

I have to agree with Stripey here.

I often have a movie playing while im playing xbox another tv with my laptop open next to me.

Multitasking baby ....yeah!!!

Aaaaah, my specialist subject...

You are of course, talking absolute balls.

You're saying the violence of Judge Dredd (bear in mind how many times the population of Mega-City 1 has been decimated in the most brutal, gorey and realistic way) is comparable to the two or three pretty violent scenes in The Dark Knight? You're off your chump brah! I direct you towards any Dredd storyline featuring Judge Death (particulary his origin story, which features countless acts of carfree one-on-one violence); or the Block War storyline; or the Apocalypse War storyline (nuclear war tends to get a bit bloody); or the 'Judgement on Gotham' Batman/Dredd cross-over, I could go on...

As for DC being "timid, patriotic, feelgood", check out titles like Hellblazer or Preacher from DC's Vertigo line, or the Batman: Red Mist storyline; and get ready for some humble pie, perhaps with a side order of your hat...

no, I'm saying that a comic book is not as realistic as a film in it's ability to depict violence. Pretty obvious I would have thought? Seeing a drawing of something is hardly on the same scale as seeing something "actually" happen in a film isit?

Saw it on Friday and was fairly bored. It's not a terrible film by any means and there are certainly great bits in it and great performances, also. By the end, it just seemed like a huge mish-mash of what-the-hell-is-going-on???? Perhaps it's too clever for me. I certainly felt it was trying to convince me of that. What I am convinced of is that I probably won't bother with another 12A summer blockbuster featuring men-in-tights.

Saw it yesterday and thought it was pretty good.

That said, I don't know anyone who is a member of the IMDB, but whoever is on it must be on crack. The best film ever it ain't.

I'm an IMDB member and sad to report that it's forums are populated by the same illiterate, blind insult-hurling, text-speak morons who infest every other forum (except AB-Music, of course - top bunch )

As a dyed-in-the-wool movie buff, I was hoping to engage in some decent debate with other folks, but as per usual, it degenerates into insult-tennis.

Back on topic - the TDK is great entertainment - and it might be argued on that level that it is "The Greatest Movie Ever", if it touched a lot of people. But like all things popular that are aimed at a younger audience, it'll drop down the pecking order as soon as the next big thing hits the cinemas.

As an example - a few years ago, the Evening Express did a player profile on the 3rd string Aberdeen keeper - a young loon who's name escapes me....

Last Movie Seen - Rush Hour 2

Favourite Movie - Rush Hour 2

Favourite TV Show - Ali G in Da House

Favourite Actor - Ali G (honestly! o_O)

I suspect the above is typical and representative of a large percentage of the Bebo-generation who vote on IMDB.

imho rolf wft ttfn...and so forth

To a certain portion of the population the latest will always be the greatest. I read F1 magazine towards the end of the last F1 season, and they had a reader survey of the 100 greatest Formula 1 drivers of all time. They had Lewis Hamilton at number 8..... at this point he hadn't even completed one season, at the time they conducted and published the survey he had probably had about 10 races, and he's the 8th greatest driver of all time? Please.....

You might want to try the dvd forums, it's a decent site. It has some silly stuff in the off topic forums, but the film discussion is usually pretty good.

i mean, yeah, it's a good movie...but what the fuck was up with batman's voice?

listening to him talk just made me want to clear my throat a lot.

I seem to remember seeing an interview with Michael Keaton years ago.

He said that once you had the suit on you couldn't help but talk huskily with that sore-throat sounding voice.

Its like the suit takes over.

I went to see this on Saturday afternoon, I thought it was a really good film for the first hour and a half then it just seemed to lose track, could definitely have done with losing 30 45 minutes. Heath Ledger was very, very good, thats without any sentimentality at all. They seem to have wasted an opportunity to have a follow up Two Face film, his whole involvement at the end seemed very superfluous. It should have been more than a 12A certificate though, some of the kids in the audience were far too young for that. I kind of wish they would just go the whole hog and do an 18 certificate Batman film

Definitely not the best film ever..best Batman film ever though..

i went to see it last night and must say i wasnt as impressed with it as i thought i would be. Heath ledger was really good but he wasnt as scarey and chilling as everyone made out to be. Batmans voice really pissed me off it was funny at first but after a while it just got annoying.

i`d give it a 5/10
