Bigsby
You can try to find the good in them, and after getting caught up in all the hype when they are about to be released then paying your hard earned cash, it's easy to convince yourself that they had some merit. But I think enough time has passed now for us to be objective and rational and admit that the prequels were total bollocks, particularly when compared to the greatness of the originals. That said I'm half way through Clone Wars just now and enjoying it. Surfer_Rosa
When I watch a really, really good movie I get this feeling - it's a bit like having a great meal, I feel completely fulfilled and totally satisfied. It actually does remind me of eating, as though I'm chewing up and swallowing parts of the movie (weird huh?). And I get completely sucked into the story, and I usually spend the whole next day talking about it. It's a very rare feeling and it's only happened a handful of times (in recent memory, Batman Begins and Gladiator have brought it on)Gladiator felt like a three-course meal consisting only of Ryvita for me. Scootray
Haha. Seriously though, I find no enjoyment in Star Wars at all. I've never been able to sit through one whole movie, except one of the prequels whilst killing time in a Glasgow cinema. The enjoyment I got out of it was laughing at how shit it was. I think there must be a lost generation in between people like me and then the folk who were kids when the prequels came out.For me, the first one (ie Episode IV) is as good as cinema gets, yes I know it's fashionable to say Empire Strikes Back is the best one, but the first one is a great adventure story. Scootray
I'm a spritely 20 years of age. But I mean I have friends my age who love it, it just doesn't appeal to me at all.
Afro Droid
Irvin whatshisname deserves a lot of credit too, there's a great transcript from the set of when they were filming the pre-carbonite scene and it changed a lot from the script, for example I seem to recall that Han's original reply to Leia's "I love you" was "I love you too". However watching any of the first three these days just serves to remind me how fucking shit the prequels are.It was an ad-lib on the part of Harisson Ford. But you're right, Irwin Kershner (Lucas' tutor at USC film school) really took the story to a new level after ANH. The problem with the prequels is that Lucas simply isn't a director, he's an editor and a concept man (even most of the credit for Star Wars visuals should go to conceptual artist Ralph Macquarrie). Lucas just can't get a decent performance out of actors - Ewan Macgregor, Natalie Portman, Hayden Christiensen, Liam Neeson etc aren't bad actors, they just suffer from poor direction and a shonky script. Lucas should've gotten Spielberg to direct the prequels, that would've been awesome. I still stick by AotC and RotS as being pretty fucking awesome though, but I live and breathe Star Wars.... Afro Droid
That said I'm half way through Clone Wars just now and enjoying it. The new series off the back of the film with Ashoka? It's been pretty good from what I've seen so far, other than the really annoying voice over at the start. The Genndy Tartakovsky Clone Wars series is the fucking bomb, better than the prequel movies - check it oot! Pierre Von Mondragon
They were sandpeople, cast as un-human fodder as usual, sandpeople rights n' peace I say.
ca_gere
I watched A Complete History of my Sexual Failures last night. It was annoying and funny in equal measures. I'd recommend it purely for the scene in Glasgow where the guy gets educated in the art of love making by two pissed up weegie tramps... It really tickled me. anyone seen it? She was a bit annoying when she was going on about wanting to get "a pot". Shite actress, Tarantino was probably trying to get into her pants at the time. Lemonade
I found her quite charming actually. I like her. It's the taxi driver I can't stand.Last film I watched was Zack & Miri Make A Porno. The dialogue is very recognisable as Kevin Smith, and features the guy who plays Jay and the guy who plays Randal. Really funny and filthy, albeit with a really smushy obvious ending. It's like Clerks 2 meets Jersey Girl. The anal sex scene is classic. From the IMDB quotes:[after Stacy accidentally shits all over his face] Deacon: Can you believe THIS shit? That chick frosted me like I was a fucking cake!
