Last film you watched?

Doesn't have to be new, just tell us the last film you watched and what you thought of it.

Last night I watched "Girl With A Pearl Earring". I knew nothing about the movie, knew nothing about the painting (in fact I didn't even know it was a real painting until it tells you at the end) and I really only bought it because it's got Scarlett Johansen in it. And would you nae?

Anyway, despite some of the dialogue being pretty old fashioned and occasionally difficult to follow it was a pretty enjoyable movie. It built up a lot of chemistry between the dowdy but beautiful maid (Johansen) and the great painter (and master of the house) Vermeer (played by Colin Firth) without actually showing anything happen between them apart from the most subtle of things. It's visually stunning, set in the wintertime in Holland in the 1600s, and though the story moves a little slowly it was still one of those movies that you can't take your eyes off. Really enjoyed it. thumbs up

Nope, can't say I would, the beanpole munter. You'd raft anything.

Anyway, the last film (not a movie, a film) I watched was "The Green Mile". Taped it off the telly, heavy going at 3 and a half hours, or so I thought it would be. Watched it all in one sitting and found it absorbing stuff. A great film.

The scene where the guy is chasing the mouse around with a rubbish bin above his head is one of the funniest things I've seen in a long time.

liquid sky

Invisible aliens in a tiny flying saucer come to Earth looking for heroin. They land on top of a New York apartment inhabited by a drug dealer and her female, androgynous, bisexual nymphomaniac lover, a fashion model. The aliens soon find the human pheromones created in the brain during orgasm preferable to heroin, and the model's casual sex partners begin to disappear. This increasingly bizarre scenario is observed by a lonely woman in the building across the street, a German scientist who is following the aliens, and an equally androgynous, drug-addicted male model. (Both models are played by Anne Carlisle, in a dual role.) Darkly funny and thoroughly weird.

That is brilliant, the bit where the guy gets electrocuted without the water sponge is truly awful to watch - as a lover of horror movies I find that more difficult to watch than anything the horrors/slashers offer up.

PS stop dissing my girl.

Jumper. Shite.

It wasn't THAT bad.... good fast paced action, and some brilliant camera work, if you switch your brain off at the door it's alright. My only problem with it was that the guy had this amazing skill and used it purely to rob banks and shag hot girls - he was supposed to be the hero of the piece and I just thought he was a wanker.

Up until now I thought Jumper was a film about 9/11

Michael Clayton. Thought it was pretty good. Didn't think Tilda Swinton's performance was particularly notable, but there you go.

I had to squeeze past Tilda to get into my local shop for a tin of cat food a few years ago (she was filming a bit of 'Your cheatin' heart' in Broomhill Road). I didn't ask for her autograph, and she didn't ask for mine, so honours were even:up:

The last film I watched was 'Withnail and I' on Film 4 the other night. It always amuses me........but then, I'm easily amused.

Last film in the pictures was 'No country for old men'.......enjoyed it a lot.

i recently watched "in a mans world" a low budget release filmed in Aberdeen.

short description "A true to life account of 'survival' on the streets of gang land Scotland. Based around the emotional tale of four street wise youngsters in search of the perfect score to earn them their golden passport towards a brighter future. A gritty portrayal of hope, desperation and betrayal charting the progress of these youngsters as they embark on their journey into the unforgiving heart of the Celtic Underworld. As time goes by they soon discover that life in this business is not as glamorous as it seems as they continue to spiral deeper and deeper into a world of ruthless gangsters and criminal overlords. Written by Lee Hutcheon"

and someones comment from imdb

"In a Man's World impressed me for a number of reasons. Lee took kids who had never acted before and gave this film the authenticity it needed. He also represented a city never before used in a feature film: Aberdeen. Who knew it could be so beautiful? But what's most impressive is that he took a script and turned it into a feature film with no budget. OK, there are some rough edges but we're not talking a megabucks production here! I've seen this film with a talk from the director afterwards and it just proves to me that if you want to make a movie, then don't let anything get in your way. You don't need industry validation to really make something worthwhile. I believe it won a newcomer award at the New York Film Festival also. So give it watch"

I watched Casino at the weekend, quickly followed by Night Watch. Casino, despite being Scorseses Goodfellas part 2, is brilliant, but night watch is ok at best in my oppinion. I love foreign films but it wasn't all that great to be honest. Though the way it ended means i'm going to have to watch day watch now aswell.

This is sad, it's terrible what struggling musicians have to eat these days...
