Mainly, they wouldn't get off their arses for such a small job & even where a firm actually bothered to send someone out to quote, they never followed-up. Some, if you chased them just gave excuses about having been called to do emergency repairs on somewhere big but most were never heard of again. A few of them were also pretty blunt about not wanting to move for a job that was less than a couple of thousand pounds & could I think of more to make it worth it to them. Err, fuck-no!Eventually, at the beginning of last year a neighbour was getting some extension/renovation work done so asked his Polish slaters if they knew of anyone. The guy in charge had a look, said "no problem" & within days, I had all the work done, for 250 (which was far less than any local slater had quoted) & a couple of cases of beer.
