Gemz
Hey folks,Looking for bands/acoustic acts to play at Celler 35. The new owner wants to change it into a music venue. Its got a capacity of 80 so it would be good for 'Up Close & Personal' nights. Backline includes PA and drumkit...Also looking for promotors...If your interested email me at merkinmusic@hotmail.co.ukCheersGemmaMerkin Music
shaun
do you have any photographs of the interior?
stuartmaxwell
cellar is great, once you adress the noise issue for the flats upstairs im sure you will get hoards of bookings!charlottefield + paper cut out were ace in there
Alkaline
Aye, although it's fairly cramped in there the atmosphere when you've got it full to spill is great. Thing is, due to the size, you don't really need a lot of volume in there anyway. Though some additional sound proofing would appease the folks upstairs i guess. Gemz
Yip i really apprieciate what Dave from Celler 35 is doing. More music venues the better. He is tryin to get away from the private function thing all together.Unfortunatly there is no stage at the mo...he is looking into that an possibly a new PA in the future. Can anyone advice any good bands to get down? Kashmir Red were playing last weekend and the atmosphere was meant to be really good...CheersGemma8-)

Gemz
i say, leave it without a stage.Really? I thought that it would be the one thing that put people off? I think its a great idea to keep it the way it is...definatly...Gemma8-)
RF Scott
I don't think not having a stage would put people off, but perhaps if it was slightly raised so that people at the back could see, that'd be pretty good. That said, I can't remember how easy it is to see - so if there's no problem with visibility, there's no point in a stage!
soundian
If I recall correctly it's not a very high ceiling. A stage/raised area would also have to be big enough to accommodate larger bands. it's easy to spill out another 6 inches if the performance area is at the same level as the audience area but if there's a height difference you might have to go forward 3-4 feet instead. Personally, I'd do a few shows and see how it works, see if it's feasible to put a stage in and see if the benefits of a stage would outweigh the occasional hassles of a band being too big for it. Alan Cynic
It's a cosy wee place....from my open-mike experiences there (solo, and as part of a 5 piece band), I'd say it's best suited to smaller outfits. Ideal for bands like Welfare Mothers, Delawair, Holy Folks, Tupelo Town Assembly etc . The layout kind of bisects the audience though. Gemz
Cheers Alan,I have messages Holy Folks an hopefully hear back. I had never heard of them...there brilliant!Gemz
stuartmaxwell
its the perfect size for smart diy gigs too. stick a decent vocal pa in there and it is all it needsfloor gigs are the best
Alan Cynic
I could see larger, but not too noisy bands such as No Pasaran, Lorenzo Snow Collective, the Jinks (sp?...also forgotten their new name), creating a pleasant atmosphere in there. framheim
i'd like to play there cause then i can actually carry my stuff home and it's a nice place. not sure if we'd all fit though.
Alan Cynic
Hugh & Philip are thin enough,....the rest of you could afford to lose a few pounds, I suppose (like myself).
davewarden
All of PVH fitted no bother.(2 geetars keyboard etc)I think this place is what Aberdeen needs, a nice small gig venue that is perfect for DIY/smaller gigs. If anyone has been to the balcony in Dundee its bout a similar size and touring bands are often stopping of their as opposed to doing Glasgow and Edinburgh.Get in touch with Dizzy Storm on here she might be interested in using it for her gigs. Alan Cynic
If it was a band with a lot of bulky equipment, the audience would have to squeeze between band members to get to the lavvies:laughing:
lepeep
Maple played Diesel for the first time ever (in public) in the cellar ....I remember I monumentally fucked up the intro 3 times....boy oh boy...that's going back a bit!
